WAVY-TV in Hampton Roads presently airs 30 hours of local news each week. In 1982, WAVY-TV became the first station in the Hampton Roads television market to launch a new helicopter: "Chopper 10", and that same year they rebanded its newscast with a new newscast name: "The Daily News". In 1989, WAVY became the first station in the Hampton Roads market to launch a 5:00 weeknight newscast. In 1992, WAVY became the first station to launch a 5:30 weekday morning newscast. In 1994, WAVY added a 5:30 weeknight newscast. On July 21, 2008, WAVY became the first station in the market to produced local newscasts in high definition. On November 20, 2015, WAVY became the first station in the market to launch its drone aircraft known as: "Drone 10".
