Bring back Scrappy-Doo

This article is about why Scrappy-Doo needs to be brought back.

I am a huge Scooby-Doo fan. I grew up watching reruns of the classic series on Cartoon Network in the late 90's. I also bought and loved all the 90's direct-to-VHS movies such as "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island," and "Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost." My favorite Scooby-Doo series is the classic 1969 series, "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!," and "The New Scooby-Doo Movies," which had Batman Batman with Scooby and gang working on a mystery together. I also enjoyed the 2000's updated series such as "What's New, Scooby-Doo." But, one of the things I have never understood is the massive hatred of this puppy right here:

Scrappy-Doo:

Scrappy-Doo is a fictional Great Dane puppy, and is the nephew of Scooby-Doo that was introduced in the forth Scooby-Doo incarnation "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo." Scrappy has famous catchphrases such as "Lemme at 'em! Lemme at 'em! I'll splat 'em!," and "Ta dadada ta daaa! Puppy Power!." He was the polar opposite of his uncle Scooby, who would act scared and run away when monsters would attack. Scrappy was brave and confident and would often run up to the monsters and pick a fight with them.

At the time, the ratings for the show were declining and ABC threatened to cancel Scooby-Doo if the ratings did not get better. Did you read that! Scooby-Doo almost got canceled! Once Scrappy-Doo was introduced, the ratings boosted up, and he saved the franchise! Scrappy proved to be a very popular character among kids in the late-1970's and the 1980's.

However, as years progressed, hatred for the character started to grow in the 1990's and many people criticized Scrappy for the show's decline. The hatred got so big on the internet, that he has not appeared in any Scooby-Doo spin-off series or other Scooby-Doo related projects, with the exception of the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo film, where he was made as the villain, after being on the side of the road by the gang!

Scrappy-Doo in Scooby-Doo(2002):

I'm sorry, but dumping a little puppy on the road is wrong! And making Scrappy-Doo the villain of the whole movie was totally out of character, as Scrappy loved his uncle and would never try to kill Scooby. It was obviously a decision made to please Scrappy haters.

Even Cartoon Network jumped on the bandwagon, by taking a jab at Scrappy-Doo through a commercial in 2002, where Scrappy gets mad at the other cartoon characters for being "the kings and queens of this network," while he had existed 20 years before them. They also made a game where you can hit Scrappy-Doo as many times as you want.

I just do not understand the hatred towards Scrappy-Doo. Of all the terrible characters Hanna Barbara made in the 70's and 80's, why is it Scrappy that gets the most hate? Maybe, its because I didn't grow up in the 70's and 80's when Scrappy was added.

Also, they toned Scrappy's character down after 1983, and he became much more calm and the show wasn't focused on him like the 1978-1982 years. Series such as "The 13 Ghosts Of Scooby-Doo," showed how he evolved and was less childish and naive as the earlier episodes.

I personally think Scrappy-Doo should be brought back in the next Scooby-Doo series. The hatred shown by other fans and Warner Bros has gotten really old. Scrappy-Doo was a major character of the franchise and deserves to return. He also did not kill the franchise like a lot of people believe, because he saved the show when it was getting stale, and saved Scooby from getting canceled!

They could portray him like he was in the 1983-1986 years, when he was more calm and less obnoxious. But he needs to return because their are Scrappy fans such as myself that would like to see the character again.
