Nickelodeon the Rise and fall of a Great Network Pt.2
As the Internet entered the scene, Nick was one of the first kids' entertainment companies to venture into the "virtually" uncharted territory called cyberspace. We launched Nickelodeon Online and Nick.com in October 1995. Since then, the number of visitors to Nickeloden sites have grown in leaps and bounds and Nick's content has expanded to include original games and cartoons as well as all the information kids can handle about the Nickelodeon shows and stars they love.Also in 95 Nick Launched the SNL type show "All That". All That featured a format of cold open, sketch-comedy pieces and a musical guest in its first six seasons and the final season. The cold opens took place in the green room five minutes before the show was to start. Usually, Kevin the Stage Manager (played by Kevin Kopelow) tries to rouse the cast members to preparation for the show by announcing "Five minutes!". Some of these cold opens included playing spin the bottle and having to kiss a cactus, an octopus, or a chair; Kel Mitchell reenacting a fight on Kopelow; and guest star Mark Curry tying up Kenan Thompson and wearing his Superdude costume. All other seasons featured a weekly host introducing and occasionally participating in the various sketches and a musical guest, a format pioneered by Saturday Night Live. Many of the sketches were original material, although Bill Cosby, Roseanne, Steve Urkel, Ross Perot, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush were impersonated by Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Angelique Bates, Johnson, Gabriel Iglesias, and an adult, respectively. The humor was very pre-teen-oriented, such as Josh Server eating his own dandruff, or appearing on stage wearing only his underwear, or a cereal called Lucky Germs or Fruit Poots. From Season 7 onward, the humor was geared more toward younger viewers than the first six seasons. In the first five seasons, All That used mostly urban contemporary and R&B musical guests, but in later seasons aimed for more mainstream, modern rock-oriented acts.All That Ended it's run on Nickelodeon

In 1996, Nick took to the big screen with the release of "Harriet the Spy," based on the classic kids' novel of the same name. Harriet's sleuthing skills spelled box office success, and led the way for a slew of exciting Nick Movies to follow: "Good Burger" in 1997, "Rugrats: The Movie" in 1998, and "Snow Day" in 2000. "Rugrats" toddled on to become the most successful non-Disney animated film in history, and its sequel "Rugrats in Paris" was one of the biggest hits of the 2000 holiday season. In December 2004, Nick Movies, Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks are excited to present the feature "Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events," based on the best-selling books and starring Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep and Jude Law as the voice of Lemony Snicket.
In 1997 Nick created the hit game show "Figure It Out".Hosted by 1992 Olimpic Gold Metalist Summer Sanders, Figure it Out showed kids talents from all over the world.The game is composed of two sets of three one-minute rounds per episode in which the panelists take turns asking yes-or-no questions to try to guess the contestant's talent. Each time a panelist mentions a word that is part of the phrase that describes the secret talent, the word is turned over on Billy the Answer Head (right), a game board that displays a puzzle. The solution to this puzzle is always the contestant's secret. Billy shows which words of the phrase have and have not been guessed. The contestant wins a prize after each round that his or her talent remains unguessed. After the third round, each panelist is given one final guess as to what the contestant's talent is. The game ends either when a panelist guesses the secret talent or if no panelist guesses the secret talent correctly after the "last guess" stage. During each round, the panelists receive one clue as a hint to one of the words of the secret phrase. The clue can take the form of physical objects, such as dates (the fruit) to indicate a clue about calendars, sounds (rarely used), or pantomime (the "Charade Brigade", usually two or three cast members, only appearing in round 3, who act out a word from the phrase). Another aspect of the game show is the "Secret Slime Action." Before the second round of each game, a randomly selected member of the studio audience is revealed; that member stands to win a piece of merchandise, typically a Figure It Out-branded article of clothing (in the first season, it was a merchandise prize, such as a Nintendo 64 or a mountain bike), if at least one celebrity panelist performs the Action (and is subsequently "slimed") by the third round. The Secret Slime Action is typically a simple and almost guaranteed action; actions such as touching a clue, looking to the left (which was reflexive, as clues were commonly wheeled out on a small track from the contestants' left), using the phrase "are you..." or "is it..." and having a certain name were all used as actions. Some actions were even intrinsically unenforceable, such as "thinking about coconuts" or "thinking about mushroom soup"; especially in later episodes, a successful Secret Slime Action was mostly a foregone conclusion, and the variables were only when it would be triggered, and by whom. (Contrary to popular belief, the Secret Slime Action was sometimes NOT actually performed by a panelist.) When the Secret Slime Action is triggered, all play stops while the panelist is slimed and the Action revealed, and is resumed afterwards (the clock is restarted if a round had been interrupted). At the conclusion of the game, after the secret talent has been revealed, the contestant demonstrates or displays his or her skill and talks about it with the host and the panelists.There was also two spin-offs of the 3rd(Figure It Out: Family Style) and 4th season (Figure It Out: Wild Style) The Show ended on December 12, 1999
In 1998 Nickjr.com the Network's 2ed website was launched.And The Game Show "Your On!"(hosted by Phil More) started.The Your On Rules are,Two kid contestants on a remote location work together to complete three tasks, each with a common theme. The tasks involved convincing passerby to do silly things, like kissing a fish or playing hopscotch with one kid riding piggyback on them. The kids had 10 minutes to do this. Performing all three tasks won a prize (such as a Nintendo 64, snowboards, or camping equipment), failing wins a smaller prize (usually a gift certificate).Three games like this are played. The later two games had a feature called the "Runaround", played in the studio. Six people, two from each section of the audience, would be called down. After they saw the three tasks the kids had to perform, they had to guess how many tasks they thought the kids would complete. Getting it right won a prize. In the first runaround, all six players were kids. In the second, it was three kids and three adults who were somehow related to the kids. At the end of each show, one of the adult Runaround losers and their kid would be called to the center of the stage. There, Phil Moore and the kid would do gross things to them, such as pouring slime on them or getting them to stomp on large purple balloons to make "grape juice". On one episode, the tables were turned on Phil. Before Phil could call anyone to the center of the stage, Vivianne & Travis suddenly walked in from backstage. They, along with Phil's own son Daniel, proceeded to slime him with a variety of substances. The show ended at the end of 1999.
1999 was the biggest year for Nickelodeon because Nick celebrated their 20th birthday. And what would a birthday be without a party, celebrities and cake? We had a year long celebration and Nick included in an exhibit created by the Museum of Television honoring our 20 years of television.Also in 99 Nick GAS Started Broadcasting. Nickelodeon GAS was created by Nickelodeon as a channel where game shows produced by Nickelodeon could air more frequently. This was when game shows that were playing re-runs such as Figure It Out, What Would You Do?, Nick Arcade, Family Double Dare, You're On!, Nickelodeon GUTS, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Wild and Crazy Kids were drafted to this channel. This also marked the return for game shows that weren't played for years such as Think Fast!, Finders Keepers, Double Dare, Super Sloppy Double Dare, Get the Picture and Super Special Double Dare.Nick GAS Ended Programming On December 31, 2007 but will stay on Dish Network until Jan 31st 2008.Also in 99 The hit cartoon "Spongbob Squarepants" was born.Spongebob is said to be the Nicktooon to end all Nicktoons. Two more things also happend in 1999, The Preschool Channel "Noggin" Started to broadcast and at the 1999 Kids Choice Awards, Britney Spears gave a live performance via satellite from Florida, while singing she wore a tight-fitting shirt, clearly showing that she was not wearing a bra causing a lot of controversy with the network and the parents of the kids watching Nick.

In 2000, Double Dare 2000 premeired on Nick. Jason Harris hosted this version of the show; original host Marc Summers was the executive consultant. Double Dare 2000 followed the Family Double Dare format with a revamped set and bigger physical challenges. It also featured the new "Triple Dare Challenge" option in round two (which would be worth $300 and an additional prize), introduced "goooze", and referred to the obstacle course as the "Slopstacle Course". Five episodes were shot in high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 as a promotion for sponsor Sony. Double Dare 2000 was cancelled in December 2000. During the "back to" and "up next" bumpers of Double Dare 2000 on Nick GAS, the show's tagline is The Mess For The New Millennium. Currently, DD2K is being aired in order according to the original air dates and episode numbers.The show ended on Dec 4th 2000. DD2K Stopped airing on Nick GAS on Dec 31st 2007.
In 2002, Nickelodeon premiered U-Pick Live, a kid-controlled, wild and wacky weekday interactive show broadcast live from the network's Times Square headquarters in New York. Hosted by Brent Popolizio and Candace Bailey, U-Pick Live features celebrity interviews, hilarious sketches and all-around impromptu entertainment, while viewers control what they see on-air as determined by their online, telephone and mail-in votes. Also in 02 "The N" began Broadcasting on Noggin at night(6:00PM-6:00AM) and Nicktoons Network(a 24 hr nicktoons channel) started broadcasting.
In 2003 Nictoons Network Changed its logo from the 02 logo to the logo above.
In 2004, Nickelodeon celebrated its 25th birthday in epic kid-style by super-sizing U-Pick Live with more stars, kids, picks, mess, prizes and premieres than ever before and kept the party going in New York, Orlando and Hollywood. Music stars Avril Lavigne, Gavin DeGraw, Jason Mraz, Counting Crows, Brandy, Busted and JoJo performed, and celebratory highlights included "Happy Birthday" star shout-outs, behind-the-scenes tours of Nick shows and the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, the most outrageous moments in Nick history, sneak peeks of new shows and a trip to the Nick Splash Zone at Universal Hollywood.
In 2005 Nicktoons Network Changed again. This time branding themselfs as the Amiation Captial of the World.
In 2007 Nick Aired the 100 greatest moments in nicktoon history showing all the first airing of every nicktoon ever made and on nictoons network showed every nicktoon that made the 100 best list.Also in 07 The N Changed logos and Noggin and the N became 24 hr seperate networks.
