The New Adventures of Batman is an animated series produced by Filmation in 1977 featuring the adventures of the DC Comics superheroes, Batman, Robin and often Batgirl.

It originally premiered in February 1977 on CBS. The episodes from this series were later aired along with other Filmation shows—such as Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle (1976, CBS)—as part of: the Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour (1977–1978 CBS), Tarzan and the Super 7 (1978–1980 CBS), and Batman and the Super 7 (1980–1981 NBC).

It should be noted that before The New Adventures Of Batman, Filmation created—and aired on CBS in 1968—another Batman series (without Bat-Mite), named The Batman/Superman Hour (paired up with his old Superman/Superboy episodes) and then renamed as The Adventures Of Batman & Robin.

In this series, anyway, The Dynamic Duo fight crime in Gotham City which often involves the classic rogues gallery as well as original villains. Complicating matters is Bat-Mite, a well meaning extra-dimensional imp who considers himself the biggest fan of the superhero. As a result, he wears a variant of Batman’s costume and attempts to help him, only to often create more problems although he is occasionally an asset.

The series was produced concurrently with Super Friends produced by the competing Hanna-Barbera Productions which included Batman and Robin as members. The main distinction Filmation’s series had was that Batman and Robin were voiced by Adam West and Burt Ward, the lead actors of the Batman live action television series.

Koventry is right. This series was animated and starred Bat-Mite. I believe the animation was done by a company called Filmation - better known for cartoons like Fat Albert, Masters of the Universe, Bravestarr, Tarzan, The Ghostbusters (not the "Real Ghostbusters" by Nelvana), Blackstar, Zorro, Star Trek and I believe Shazam.

This definitely was not live-action. I enjoyed the cartoon when I was a kid. CBS carried alot of good Saturday morning shows. Alot of people hated this cartoon though.

I used to love The New Adventures of Batman when I was 6 years old in 1978. This cartoon is what got me into Batman in the first place. I always used to love Batman and Robin's colorful costumes and their vehicles and gadgets. I think this cartoon is a perfect way for little kids to get into Batman. And it's Kid Friendly for just that reason. Good news it's on DVD now and I had my DVD copy of this cartoon autographed by Adam West(Batman) hilmself. This is cartoon is a must for all Batfans and for the whole family to enjoy.

By the way I liked Batmite even though he was clumsy. And my favorite episode of this series was He Who Laughs Last where The Joker steals a train and kidnaps Robin in a boxcar and Robin gets out with a laser in his utility belt because also I like trains as well. Since this series I got into the other Batman cartoons including the recent 90's animated series the 60's TV show, the comics of course and the movies.
