Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light

Show Summary

Aired: 1987 - 1987
Show Type: Animated
Country of Origin: US

The planet of Prysmos had enjoyed a technological age for several thousends of years, untill the realignment of the three suns marked the end of the age of science and technology and began the age of magic. Prysmos had now entered a kind of medieval age where all forms of technology were now useless and mankind on Prysmos had to resort to a more primitive and simple way of living. The wizard Merklyn issued a challenge to whomever wished to accept it for a chance to earn magical powers from his shrine on top of Iron Mountain. 14 knights managed to reach the shrine; the 7 heroic Spectral Knights (led by Leoric) and the 7 evil Darkling Lords (led by Darkstorm) recieve magical totems that transforms them into different animals. The knights which carried staffs were able to infuse magic within them (4 of the Spectral Knights and 4 of the Darkling Lords had staffs), while the ones who didn't have staffs were able to pilot vehicles using magic and these vehicles also had magical powers of their own. The action figures released had special paint jobs done to their chest areas to reveal holographic images, the same was done for the vehicles. The cartoon had great special effects (for it's day) when the knights transformed into their animal forms. The show had 13 episodes in total which aired in 1987. The Spectral Knights are; Leoric, Arzon, Feryl, Ectar, Whitterquick, Cryotek and Galadria. While the Darkling Lords were; Darkstorm, Mortdredd, Reekon, Cindarr, Lexor, Cravex and Virulina.

I remember the toys. I used to drool over them at any toy section until I pestered my parents enough to buy me one every now and then. I rarely caught the show. I just wanted the toys because of their holographic chests.

I've only seen two episodes of this, one in particular I remember was when the evil lot threw a potion over the leader of the good guys so he couldn't leave his lion form, and because the potion turned him red his mates were none-the-wiser, it was a great episode of a great program.

When I was a kid this show aired on early Sunday mornings. I barely got to finish an episode before my folks hauled me of to church! I had a hard time concentrating on the sermon since I had the Visionaries theme song playing in my head (looped over and over)!
