Readalong

Show Summary

Aired: 1975 - 1979
Show Type: Live Action
Country of Origin: CANADA

Readalong is a series of educational, yet entertaining, 10 minute programs. The show aired in Canada on TVOntario, as well as PBS in the U.S. The main focus is reading of course, teaching two new words, per episode. Most of the show was acted out by puppets. The two main characters were Boot and Pretty. Boot was a friendly blue-collared brown workboot, with white laces. Pretty was a glamorous pink party pump. Some of the other characters were Granny, Mr. Bones and The Explorer. The puppets would introduce words, speaking directly to the viewer, then footage of real live children would spell and write the words themselves. Cameo skits of the secondary characters would also appear in the episodes. The show was often used in classrooms throughout North America. Although no new episodes were made after 1979, Readalong remained on the air, through syndication well throughout the 1980's, up until the early 90's.
