Anyone else think that the reason Shaggy's always hungry is because he has the munchies?

Scooby-Doo is probably the most overrated cartoon of all time. I can't stand him. He was overplayed on Cartoon Network then, and he's overplayed on Cartoon Network now.

I've liked Scooby-Doo for years. Yes, they made a lot of spin-off programs but they weren't all terrible. I have a theory as to why the cartoon is over-played or over-rated as it's been suggested. It's because it's simple...and you don't need a PhD to figure out a lot of the mysteries. The show became more about Shaggy and Scooby's comic adventures, stumbling into situations and often apprehending the criminals/ghosts by accident. It was also said that "you've seen one, you've seen them all". I don't believe that to be the case. While the show did in fact have a formula...it was the interplay of the characters that became a focal point as the series went on...the series was too serious, some may find it funny my saying that, but the show was too serious in it's first season or two on the air and then it became less serious and more comical. The cartoon series has never really been off the air...either in re-runs or in new cartoons...with longevity comes the risk of over-play or over-rated but when it comes down to it, those who do not like the cartoon are who think the series is over-rated. I think the cartoon isn't over-rated, I think it's just getting recognition among the nostalgia market/demographics who are older now but watched it when they were younger. You read it all the time pretty much...so i'd say back when Scooby-Doo was in it's first 5 or 6 years on the air it wasn't getting the hype that the show gets now and that goes back to the longevity I was talking about. Think about it, this series came along in 1969...almost 40 years ago...kids in 1969 are in their early to mid 50's or older now...so when a series has that kind of longevity still making noise these many years later, that's why it gets a lot of press and hype. In a bizarre sort of way the series is getting respect I think.
