Sonic The Hedgehog: The Movie

Movie Summary

Released: 1999
Nothing Says Action! Nothing says Fun! Nothing Says Edge Of Your seat Thrills! True to its Sega video-game roots, this futuristic 60-minute "movie" includes a lot of yelling, running, and ruthlessly bright colors aloong the path to saving the world. Sonic and his sidekicks are determined to thwart a plan that would turn their Land of the Sky into the equivalent of The Land of Darkness, which lurks beneath the surface (and is obviously the former planet Earth). So they plow through to the center of the planet and the ancient city of Robotropolis to do righteous battle. The big question of the day is whether the usually evil Dr. Robotnik is telling the truth for once or sending the good guys into a trap.

While marketed in the United States as "The Movie" by ADV Films, this is actually a two-episode OVA which has been edited to resemble a film. It was originally released in Japan in 1996.

Starring:

Fastest Hedgehog Around The world, SONIC

Pilot and Super Genuis, Tails

Punching Echidna Knuckles

The Evil Dr.Robotnik Egghead.

I love the theme song from this anime. Not the horrible "Look-Alike" by Riu Konaka, but the instrumental by Mitsuhiro Tada that plays while Sonic battles Metal; it's one of the cornerstone themes of Sonic the Hedgehog in my mind. This is my second-favorite Sonic cartoon after "Adventures," but like that show, you really have to just take it for what it is.

I thought the Sonic OVA was good. The dub was horrid, but it was a great adaption of the game. I own the DVD, it's ultra rare. There's just one more thing I need to get out.

Sonic OVA > Sonic X

I wish they released a soundtrack for the OVA, the music at the beginning is amazing.

This isn't really a movie; it's a two-part TV special when it was shown in Japan.
