Movie Summary

Released: 1987
This film highlights the drafted mans view of Vietnam. From being indoctrinated into the Marines, to their basic training and all the issues that it brings. Then they take you to the war with graphic visuals, deafening soundtrack and unbelievable scenes and dialect. One of Stanley Kubrick's masterpieces. You MUST see this film.

I love watching the sergeant on Mail Call on The History Channel (I think) and I forgot he was in this movie. I hated what he did to Private Pile, aka the guy from Law and Order: Criminal Intent-which I love watching him in. I usually watch the first part, cringe at the treatment, and leave the room because the rest isn't interesting, except for the famous: Me love you long time.

One thing I never did understand about this movie. Where the hell did private Pyle get the live rounds he used in the head. During basic, all rounds given to you on the range are counted and accounted for and when you leave the range you must produce the EXACT number of spent shells and/or unused rounds you are given. If you lose one, then you will stay there and search untill you find it. Even if it takes all night.

I find this to be a great Stanley Kubrick movie. I haven't seen too much of his films yet. You just can't help but laugh during the scenes with Gunnery Sgt. Hartman (played by R. Lee Ermey).
