Dessie Curley is an average working class man with a wife and six children in a tight knit community. But life in this cheerful and noisy Irish home is hit by a bombshell, when the eldest daughter, 20 year old Sharon, announces that she's pregnant...and to make things even more complicated, she refuses to name the father. Soon after word gets out of her "snapper", George Burgess, a neighbor of Dessie's (and the father of Sharon's friend Yvonne), leaves his wife leaving Sharon the talk of the neighborhood. She assures her family and friends (those that are still talking to her) that the father is a Spanish sailor, but is she telling the truth? As the child develops within her, Sharon and her family struggle on amongst the pressure to the point where they have to come to terms.
