On December 21st, Apple Computer will introduce a new Macintosh. And you'll see why 2012 won't be like "2012"

Wrong again! Any fan of contemporary literature will tell you that "1984" was written by visionary author George Orwell.

I'm pretty sure that yes this commercial WAS based on the novel 1984 and that no it was not written by John Steinbeck. It was written by Goethe!

Only kidding! I know 1984 was actually written by Marcel Proust. DUH!

This commercial was successful during the Super Bowl in 1984. 23 years after it was made, they made a parody of an Apple Mac launch ad featuring Hilary Clinton.

"Big Brother was kind of like the Nazi Party, and this commercial certainly reflected on the Nazi-esque image that Steinbeck was going for in "1984 the novel." Very creative commercial though."

I sincerely hope you were not being serious (or were at least intoxicated) when you posted that comment.

"Big Brother" in this commercial is supposed to refer to IBM.

The blonde woman with the hammer in that video looked hot. She actually looks more like she should be in a beer commercial, though. She has a nice bounce to her.

    a parody of sorts
Rhimmer Posted 12 years 1 month ago
They where making fun of the book 1984. Where Big brother is watching you. That is what this was all about.

"This is why I biult my own PC "

Isn't that a Pixar avatar. No irony there.

    hahaha...they spoofed this on "Futurama"

Hmmmm... I think when it says, "You'll see why 1984 won't be like '1984", it must be referring to the George Orwell novel. After all, it DOES show a bunch of people under control by some kind of superior figure. Perhaps, Big Brother himself? Well, it IS a very creative and well done ad! Of course, by today's standards, Macintosh isn't that great...

I don't remember the Macintosh being something to create a commercial of this magnitude about. Heck, it wasn't anything to be excited about. PCs rule. Sorry mac users, but when I worked as a technician, the old macs were always failing and old pc's were always chugging away without problems. The new macs (once they ditched thoes crappy Motorola Chips) seem to be handling fairly well. A truly unforgettable commercial (I never saw it, but I've heard a lot about it!)

    Quote O' Matic
    • Drake: There's a New Jersey?
    • Josh: Yes. They just opened it.
    • Drake: But why is it called "New Jersey" if they've never had a plain old "Jersey"?
    • Josh: I don't know. I wasn't at the meeting.
