I remember this more vividly than any other commercial from my childhood!
    railfan955 Posted 6 years 7 months ago
I posted the longer version on the first page of the 1980 Public Service Announcement(PSA) page under the \"RIGHT TO SAY NO\" title. So if any of you are looking for the longer version, that\'s where it is.

Yeah anti-drug PSAs were all the rage back then. With Nancy Reagan\'s \"When it comes to drugs just say no\" campaign.

    Getting into drugs
    and being high
    is a stupid
    thing to do

    Of course being
    in control
    and saying \"NO\"
    is not the easiest
    thing to do

    Be an original
    and take a stand
    with the freedom
    to say \"NO!\"

    Don\'t let a friend
    push you into
    taking drugs
    You have the ri-i-i-i-ight
    to say \"NO!\" \"NO!\"
    The right say \"NO!\"
RJizzle Posted 6 years 9 months ago
I loved that commercial. \"Don\'t let a friend push you in-- (tisss), to doing drugs. You got a Ri-E-I-E-I-ho to say no!
gogbat Posted 6 years 10 months ago
WOW! I only remembered bits and pieces from that commercial.
rattoroel Posted 6 years 11 months ago
yeah, it is pretty funny. We had this one version of the song wher it was called \"RIGHT TO SAY YES\" where it was about saying yes to drugs. My brother despised it because when I sang it, it sounded like I meant it.

I loved this commercial when I was a kid. I laughed every time those guys were hurled into the boxes.

DAMN IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS COMMERCIAL FOREVER AS WELL, MY FAVORITE COMMERCIAL OF ALL TIME.

    THANKS!!!!!
rattoroel Posted 7 years 1 month ago
    yep.

That is still not the full version. There was a version where that oen guy you see in the final bill board (with the glasses and pimp hat) say \"You know, getting into drugs and being high is a REALLY DUMB THING. If someone offers you a joint, say no. Saying no may be the smartest thing you ever do\"

    You. Are. My. Hero.
I never thought I\'d EVER see this commercial again. We even had it recorded on video but it was erased a long time ago. God, this takes me back. I loved this back then, still do now. Thank you so much!

\"Being Into Drugs and Being High is Cool Thing to Do!

Be Like Everyone Else.....Take a Hit....FEEL FREE TO SAY YES!

\"Let a Friend Push you in to Taking Drugs....YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO SAY YES!\"
ooliyo Posted 7 years 9 months ago
I do have a longer version of this recorded on tape somewhere Jimi, if I can find it. I was exactly how yoou sang it to.
andrewrae Posted 7 years 10 months ago
Oh snap. THE definitive PSA of the decade.
mistresschimera Posted 8 years 2 months ago
This was on CBS...and I believe the song was longer...
    Simpfan83 Posted 8 years 2 months ago
Is that a particular artist singing or a random person?
SSJ Jup81 Posted 8 years 2 months ago
Just like everyone else, I thought this was longer. I do remember this, although, I don\'t remember what station showed it. I\'m pretty sure it was either CBS or ABC, but I\'m leaning more so towards CBS.
    ~Thunderkitten~ Posted 8 years 2 months ago
Gosh, I loved the hell out of this ad. I remember singing along with it. I\'m pretty sure there\'s a longer version (I don\'t remember it being that short). It\'d be cool to hear it again, lol.
SummertmeBrews Posted 8 years 3 months ago
Love the skateboarding chick in this one. So 80\'s.
    TV1985 Posted 8 years 3 months ago
I think there was a longer version to this Public Service Amouncement.
    kimsy520 Posted 8 years 3 months ago
wasn\'t there a longer version of this PSA?
    TV1985 Posted 8 years 4 months ago
Yes. It was a weird commercial. But I loved the song. I did like that guy in the big hat. And still looking back at this commercial, I just wonder who was that guy that was singing. I mean he had a great singing voice.
    kimsy520 Posted 8 years 4 months ago
This commercial always scared me a little, I don\'t know why. I was weird.
Celeste Posted 8 years 5 months ago
Out of all the anti-drug commercials of the era this one was my favourite.
I don\'t know who the guy is singing it but he reminds me of Bryan Scott from Kidd Video.
    TV1985 Posted 8 years 5 months ago
Whoever that singer was, he had a good voice.

    Great commercial.
CheezNapkin Posted 8 years 6 months ago
heh, what a bad ripoff of \"Simply Irresistable\". Good commercial though.
    TV1985 Posted 8 years 7 months ago
This commercial was a good Public Service Announcement.

These days kids still do have the right to say NO! I mean I said \"No\" whenever I was offered drugs by someone on the streets during my middle school and high school years.

How about bringing a newer commercial with this same song for the kids and teenagers of today? Possibly sung by the same person who sung on this old commercial. From my point-of-view, I think that would be cool. If not that\'s ok.
