Jewish Chautauqua Society Anti-hate PSA (1982)

P.S.A Commercial

An EXTREMELY bizarre anti-hate Public Service Announcement that aired in December 1982. This scared children. Don't believe me, then take a look.

I have been looking for this for years. I remember being about 3 or 4 years old and seeing another, much scarier version of this on TV when I was alone in my bedroom. It scared the shit out of me. I ran out of the room crying. I had nightmares about it for a long time. I still get a chill thinking about it. If memory serves, there were actually 3 different versions. The first one I saw was the scary one with the guy "talking" instead of singing. Then I remember seeing another one with the same or similar audio but a different animation. Then there's this one which I don't actually remember seeing at all.

Anyway, I would love to see that first version of it again. I hope someone finds it and puts it online one day. I wrote to the Jewish Chautauqua Society a few days ago inquiring about it, but they haven't responded. I kind of doubt they will.

This is a good anti hate message

Good anti-hate message, but the presentation leaves a bit to be desired. If I had seen this one as a kid, I'd have been scared of it, irregardless of the message.

Um.... as somebody much wiser than me once said..... WTF?

Whoever posted this, would you mind sharing where you managed to find it? I would like to try to find the other version as well.

I agree that this seems tame compared tp the one from @1974 that scared the crap out of me. Why (in this day and age of instant information) can't anyone find the original??!??

Yes, please post if someone finds it. I think I remember both verions.

I am not so sure this is the same psa as seen in 1974. I remember the person being much different looking, much shorter.I think it must have been redone in 82.

    I remember a song:
Hate, an acid that corrodes...a little man walking closer and closer and then finally exploding with hatred. It was unforgettable.

I remember this with a much deeper and haunting voice, speaking... not singing. But, this is the video I remember seeing late at night one night. Scared the cheese right out of me!

I don't know what to make of this. It looks like someone crappily put this together in 10 minutes.

I also remember seeing this in the 70s as a little kid and it unsettled me as much as anything I'd seen up to that point. I remember it being quite a bit longer, and ending with the guy's head exploding. This version seems to be truncated/edited.

I think this is older than 1982. I remember this ad from the mid 1970s and it used to scare the shit out of me.

I kinda remember it differently though - I thought there was a background or something.

It WAS in the mid 70s, and it was narrated, not sung. The guy had a really really deep and haunting voice, and he said very loudly at the end, "Hate hurts YOU!"
superbu Posted 2 years 8 months ago
Right, that's my recollection as well. The original '70s version was longer and the guy was, well, "rapping," I guess. He was speaking in rhythm. And he had a much deeper voice. The "you" in "hate hurts you" almost sounded like a ghost "boo"! The original version was creepy as hell, and probably 30 seconds long.

Right, I remember that deep voice.

Wait what dafuq? To be honest I didn't find this scary (but I can see that this could scare some kids,) I mostly found it kinda confusing.
