Did you think you saw the last of the long-haired nerd? He has a few more things to say in this video:

I wonder if that number still works
Zinger Posted 7 years 1 month ago
Not that I was a bully (much!), but I remeber thinking whenever I saw this commercial (I still hate it) that if I ever saw this kid I would love to beat him senseless. I have other words I could've used but I don't like profanity (much!). And whatever year this commercial came out I got the whole set as a Christmas present. That sucked. But, I'll confess, I still have those books in a box stored in my locker in the basement of my apt. building. Don't need them, I have the internet.

Good - I'm not the only one who wanted to shoot this kid.

It's hard to imagine, since the internet became more popular, there was a time when people actually used encyclopedias where you actually had to work to look something up. :)

    I also perferred World Book.

I hated this kid. He was so annoying and this commercial was on every 2 minutes.
    Quinnrules1997 Posted 8 years 3 months ago

    SpencerKarter1985 Posted 8 years 3 months ago
I remember that commercial, I got on tape, it was taped from VH1 in 1990.
    leospence59 Posted 1 year 2 months ago
Me too, from Nick-At-Night. He's Donovan Freberg, now 42. His Father is Stan Freberg, recording artist, radio announcer, voice over personality. BTW, There were no computers in 1980, for home use anyway. lol.

Sure, if you don't count the Apple II, The Commodore PET, Commodore VIC-20, the TI/99, the TRS-80, or the Atari 400. (Which were all available in 1980.)
ChowTimer Posted 8 years 3 months ago
That kid is irritating. The disembodied voice in the background should beat him up based on how he treats him.
Nasindor Posted 8 years 7 months ago
LOL, and now all that fits on a DVD. And what doesn't, you can Google...
    ~Thunderkitten~ Posted 8 years 8 months ago
This is one of those commercials that is burned into my brain forever. They showed it during every commercial break on Nickelodeon (or so it seemed, lol).
SummertmeBrews Posted 8 years 8 months ago
How many times did the kid's voice cracked?
Celeste Posted 8 years 9 months ago
I remember when they used to air this during the WUTV Saturday Afternoon Movie. The kid sticks out in my mind as the most annoying person in history.
    kimsy520 Posted 8 years 10 months ago
    LOL what a dork!
Celeste Posted 8 years 10 months ago
"I think I made myself abundantly clear." Say that to the wrong person and that's a good way to get yourself thumped.

    Who Was That Dude?
Benjo Posted 8 years 10 months ago
I used to be annoyed by this geek back in the day. Forgot about the awesome mullet, though. I also remember the Britannica being given away as a prize a lot on Double Dare.
Celeste Posted 8 years 10 months ago
That kid's so annoying that even my own brother couldn't top that. How is it that one smart ass kid can be that annoying?
I get the feeling that this the is the kind of kid that enjoys listening to himself talking and would dominate a conversation without any objections from people.
    Phantasmagoria_3D Posted 8 years 11 months ago
I remember these commercials from the early 90s. I always found it kind of creepy with how he talks to the voice of some person who's not even there! Reminds me of "The Amityville Horror"! LOL!
    Simpfan83 Posted 8 years 11 months ago
yeah, and he also brags about his brain-smarts.
Daikun Posted 9 years 6 days ago
Is this an anti-commercial or something? That's a hell of a lot of fourth wall breaks when he bluntly pressures the narrator to shut up...and pointing out the obvious numerous times.
    Quote O' Matic
    • [Playing checkers]
      Red: King me.
Andy Dufresne: Chess. Now there's a game of kings.
      Red: What?
      Andy Dufresne: Civilized. Strategic...
Red: ...and a total fuckin' mystery. I hate it.
