WWJ-TV Newscasts
Debut: April 02, 2001

Before 2001, WWJ-TV in Detroit did not have any newscasts of their own. But that had changed on April 2 of that year, when an another Detroit television station WKBD-TV did produced an 11 P.M. weeknight newscast for WWJ-TV. That new WWJ-TV newscast promised viewers "tonight's local news, straight to the point". In February 2002, Amyre Makupson and co-anchor Rich Fisher moved exclusive to WWJ-TV's 11 p.m. weeknight newscast, and that newscast also became known as "62 CBS Eyewitness News". Despite the changes, low ratings, however, doomed the effect. In September 2002, Viacom decided to pull the plug of WKBD-TV/WWJ-TV news operation, and the last full newscast on WWJ-TV was aired on December 3, 2002. In January 2008, the station was rebranded itself as 'WWJ-TV', dropping the "CBS Detroit" moniker which had been using, and reintroduced local weather updates titled "First Forecast". A year later, in 2009, the weather forecasts expanded with a new live two-hour weekday morning program: "First Forecast Mornings", which provides news headlines provided through a partnership with the Detroit Free Press. But then sadly, First Forecast Mornings ended on December 28, 2012. Almost a decade later, on September 1, 2022, WWJ-TV rebranded from "CBS 62" to "CBS Detroit", which in an anticipation to launch of CBS News Detroit. But despite the delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in prepared for that, WWJ-TV hired its first two news anchors Shaina Humphries and Rachelle Graham, and meteorologist Ahmad Bajjey, and executive producer of community impact Amyre Makupson. The station also hired Jeff Skversky as main weeknight news anchor to co-anchor the station's 6 p.m. & 11 p.m. weeknight newscast with Shaina Humphries. And then finally, on January 23, 2023, CBS News Detroit was launched, with the 6 p.m. & 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. The launch gave WWJ-TV its own news department for the very first time. Later in that week, WWJ-TV's 7 p.m. weeknight newscast was launched, with Skversky and Humphires again as anchors. Then, a week later, on January 30, 2023, WWJ-TV's 5 p.m. weeknight newscast was launched, with Terrance Friday and Rachelle Graham as anchors. Then, the very next week, on February 6, 2023, WWJ-TV's 4 p.m. weekday newscast was launched, with Friday and Graham again as anchors, and Kylee Miller as meteorologist. One week later, on February 13, 2023, WWJ-TV's noon weekday newscast was launched, again with Friday and Graham as anchors, and Miller as meteorologist. And then, on February 20, 2023, WWJ-TV's weekday morning newscast was launched, to provide coverage of the shooting at Michigan State University, with Kris Laudien anchoring the weekday morning newscast, and again Miller as meteorologist.
