Debut: April 14, 1980

Ganbare Gombe (がんばれゴンベ) is a children's gag manga created by Shunji Sonoyama and serialized in Mainichi Elementary Newspaper (Mainichi Shogaku Seishinbun) between 1958 to 1992. It was awarded at the Japan Cartoonists Association Award in 1977. It later received an anime program that aired on TV Tokyo (then known as Tokyo 12 Channel) from April to September 1980, lasting 63 episodes. It was Tsuchida Production's first anime work, which would later on produce the first anime adaptation of Captain Tsubasa. It follows the story of a mountain monkey, Gombe, a descendant of Son Goku, who came to Tokyo to be raised there. As he resides with Oyama-san, who works as a zookeeper, he met two mischievous boys, Santaro and Benkei, thus beginning their mischeivous adventure. Both the manga and the anime, however, never received recognizion outside Japan.
