Back in the late 1970s & the 1980s, WPTF-TV in Raleigh-Durham had newscasts, starting with its 11 p.m. weeknight newscast debut in 1978, but was dropped in April 1982, to have weekday evening newscasts moved up to 5:30 p.m. with Ken Srpan as anchor. But in 1983, the weekday evening newscasts was dropped, replaced with brief cut-ins throughout the day. The closest thing to a newscast for WPTF was a half-hour weekday newsmagazine, "North Carolina Today". On September 15, 1986, the full-length weekday evening newscasts returned to the station. On August 1, 1991, WPTF's newsroom as burned but not burned down alot, and the newsroom was locked temporary. Then a few weeks later, WPTF's newsroom was reopened, and the news department was back to work, in which they needed a 6 p.m. weekday newscast. On October 25, 1991, when the station changed its call letters to WLFL, the news department was still there.
