WANF-TV in Atlanta has been doing its news department since January 15, 1989. It all began that night, when the station was under its call letters WGNX-TV, Channel 46 launched its 10 p.m. newscast, under its original newscast title: Georgia's News at 10, with the anchorteam of Kevin Cokely & Gwen Scott, Terry Kneiss with weather, and Steve Taylor with sports. In June 1990, the newscast was expaned to an hour. On December 11, 1994, when WGNX-TV became a CBS affiliate, the 10 p.m. newscast was moved to 11 p.m., and a brief aired 7:30 p.m. newscast was dropped. Over the course of the next few years, the station would slowly expanded its news department. On December 30, 1994, Terry Kneiss did his final weather forecast by quitting. On January 9, 1995, Johnny Beckham joined Channel 46 to do the weather forecast on the 11 p.m. weeknight newscast. On June 26, 1995, Channel 46 debuted its 7 p.m. newscast, co-anchored by Karyn Greer & Steve Dawson. Also in 1995, the station debuted its noon weekday newscast. On September 2, 1996, WGNX moved its low-rated 7 p.m. newscast to 6 p.m. In 1999, WGNX-TV changed its newscast titles to CBS Atlanta News, with the hiring of Calvin Hughes and Jane Robelot as main weeknight anchors. On July 4, 2000, when Channel 46 changed its call letters to WGCL-TV, the newscast titles was rebranded as "Clear News". On March 25, 2001, WGCL-TV's newscasts began broadcasting from its new Midtown studio, with the debut of a 2-hour weekday morning newscast, and the debut of an hour-long 5 p.m. weeknight newscast. With that move at the time, WGCL-TV adopted its new green and gold news set. In 2002, WGCL-TV rebranded its newscast titles as "CBS Atlanta News". One year later (in 2003), the station's newscast titles were rebranded as "CBS 46 News". Also in 2003, Adam Murphy joined Channel 46 as reporter. In 2005, Channel 46 cancelled its 5 p.m. newscast. In 2008, Jennifer Valdez joined Channel 46 as meteorologist for both the weekday morning and noon weekday newscasts. On January 11, 2009, WGCL-TV became the third television station in the Atlanta market to broadcast its local newscasts in high definition. Also in 2009, Channel 46 rebranded its newscast titles again as "CBS Atlanta News". On August 30, 2010, Channel 46 brought back its 5 p.m. weeknight newscast, and its weekday morning newscast was expanded to 2½ hours. In 2014, WGCL-TV rebranded its newscast titles again back to "CBS 46 News". On December 1, 2014, Jim Kosik joined WGCL-TV as chief meteorologist for the weeknight newscasts, until his final weather forecast on June 23, 2017 by letting him go. In October 2017, Gurvir Dhindsa joined Channel 46 as co-anchor on the weekday morning newscast. In March 2018, Shon Gables joined WGCL-TV as main weeknight co-anchor. In May 2019, Jennifer Valdez was promoted to chief meteorologist for Channel 46's weather team. One month later, in June 2019, she began doing the weather on the noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekday newscasts. In September 2019, Rick Folbaum joined WGCL-TV as lead male anchor for the 4 p.m, 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. In May 2022, WGCL-TV debuted its 7 p.m. weeknight newscast. On September 30, 2022, the station rebranded its newscast titles as "Atlanta News First", and changed its call letters to WANF-TV. In Late August 2023, Rick Folbaum anchored his final weeknight newscast as lead male anchor. In Mid September 2023, Folbaum became co-anchor of WANF-TV's weekday morning and noon weekday newscasts.
