CITY-DT Newscasts
Debut: September 12, 1977

CITY-DT in Toronto broadcasts 34½ hours of locally produced newscasts each week (with 6½ hours each weekday and two hours each on Saturdays and Sundays). It all began as CityPulse as a pilot episode on September 28, 1975, and as a second pilot episode on September 12, 1976. The first regular episode of CityPulse aired on September 12, 1977 was the 6pm weeknight newscast with Gord Martineau as its anchor, and Peter Gross as original sports director/anchor. Also that time, Colin Vaughan became political specialist for the station. In 1978, Bill Cameron joined the station as anchor of the 10 p.m. weeknight newscast. Also in 1978, a staff of on-air reporter were hired by CITY-TV Toronto were Jojo Chintoh (who became the first black reporter to join the station). One year later, in 1979, Mark Dailey was hired as Crime Beat reporter. In 1980, anchors began sat down anchoring at a new anchor desk set debut over in a dark studio with two orange-red-black striped beams and a television set behind the anchors. In 1981, CITY-TV rebranded its 10 p.m. newscast as CityPulse Tonight. On September 9, 1989, CITY-TV launched its weekday morning news program Breakfast Television, with co-hosts Ann Rohmer and David Onley, with MuchMusic VJ Steve Anthony broadcasting from a different spot around the area, and Kevin Frankish reading the news updates.
