WTXF-TV in Philadelphia presently broadcasts over 53 hours of locally produced newscasts each week. Under the then-call letters WTAF-TV, Channel 29 launched its newest news department, with the premiere of the 10 p.m. weeknight newscast on February 17, 1986 with Lee McCarthy as anchor, Marie Nicolini as weathercaster, and Howard Askin as sports director. On September 20, 1986, the station expanded its 10 p.m. newscast to weekends, with Charles Thomas as anchor, and Bill Perry as sports anchor. On June 1, 1988, when Channel 29 changed its call letters to WTXF-TV, the news department was only two years old at the time. On March 5, 1990, the station expaned its 10 p.m. newscasts to a full-hour, with the return of Jill Chernekoff (original reporter), this time as Lee McCarthy's co-anchor. But on June 14, 1990, Howard Askin left Channel 29 after his final broadcast as sports director. On September 30, 1990, Channel 29 expanded its 10 p.m. Sunday newscast to a full-hour. In January 1994, Lee McCarthy left WTXF-TV after anchoring his final 10 p.m. weeknight newscast, and then have Jill Chernekoff stay as main anchor, but that didn't do right. In 1995, Channel 29 changed its 10 p.m. newscast titles to "The Fox 10 O'Clock News". Channel 29's news department was about to be expanded and finally they computerized its newsroom, and on April 1, 1996, WTXF-TV launched its two weekday morning newscasts, the one at 6:30 a.m., and another weekday morning newscast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. which was called "Good Day Philadelphia", with Tracey Matisak and Don Tollefson as original anchors. In 1997, Sue Serio joined the station to do the weather on Good Day Philadelphia. Also in 1997, the 6:30 a.m. weekday morning newscast as expanded to a full-hour by renamed that newscast titles as "Fox Morning News". In 1998, Don Tollefson left Good Day Philadelphia and Channel 29 as anchor, and he was replaced by Dave Price, and later replaced by Mike Jerrick (who first joined the station in 1999 before leaving in October 2002). In late April 2003, Channel 29 rebranded its newscasts titles as Fox 29 News. On October 9, 2006, Channel 29 debuted its midday weekday newscast with that title called "First News at 11" at 11 a.m. On January 22, 2007, they debuted its 5 p.m. weekday newscast. On October 6, 2007, Channel 29 debuted its 6 p.m. newscast. On September 1, 2008, WTXF-TV moved "First News at 11" to 12 p.m., and renamed it as "Fox 29 News at Noon". On September 7, 2009, Channel 29 expanded its weekday morning newscast program "Good Day Philadelphia" to 5 hours with an addition of an hour at 9 a.m. Also on that date, a new half-hour 6 p.m. weeknight newscast was debut. But on September 12, 2011, Channel 29 cancelled its 12 p.m. weekday newscast. On September 4, 2012, Howard Eskin returned to Channel 29, this time as sports director for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weeknight newscasts. On September 20, 2014, Channel 29 debuted its weekend morning newscast until the title: "#Fox29Weekend" (before renamed that title as "Good Day Philadelphia"). In May 2016, Channel 29 debuted its 11 p.m. newscast. In 2019, Jason Martinez joined the station as Shania Humphries' main weeknight co-anchor. In January 2020, the station rebranded its 6 p.m. newscast as "The Six".
