WPIX-TV in New York began serving as the longtime over-the-air television broadcaster of New York Yankees Baseball on April 17, 1951 up to its finale on September 13, 1998. The on-air broadcast team at the time were: Mel Allen (1951-1964), Bill Crowley (1951-1952), Dizzy Dean (1951), Art Gleeson (1951-1952), Joe DiMaggio (1952), Jim Woods (1953-1956), Joe E. Brown (1953), Red Barber (1954-1966), Phil Rizzuto (1957-1996), Jerry Coleman (1963-1969), Joe Garagiola (1965-1967), Frank Messer (1968-1984), Whitey Ford (1969-1971), Bob Gamere (1970), Bill White (1971-1988), Bobby Mercer (1983-1984; 1991-1998), Spencer Ross (1985), Jim Kaat (1986), Billy Martin (1986-1987), George Grande (1989-1990), Tom Seaver (1989-1993), Paul Olden (1993-1996), Rick Cerone (1996-1997), Suzyn Waldman (1996-1998), Ken Singleton (1997-1998), and Tommy John (1998). But finally after a 17-year absense, Yankees Baseball returned to WPIX-TV in 2015 (to 2019) by picking up YES Network's package of over-the-air Yankees broadcasts, except in the 2020 season (because of the Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic), but WPIX carried Yankees Baseball again one last time in 2021. During that time, the on-air broadcasting team were: Michael Kay (2015-2019; 2021), Ken Singleton (2015-2019; 2021), Ryan Ruocco (2015-2019; 2021), Bob Lorenz (2015), Paul O'Neill (2015-2019; 2021), Al Leiter (2015-2018), John Flaherty (2015-2019; 2021), David Cone (2015-2019; 2021), and Jeff Nelson (2019).
