Gabriel Kotter returns to Brooklyn to teach history at the very high school from which he graduated ten years prior. When the "Sweathogs" (a nickname earned by the underachieving students of Buchanan High) give him a hard time, Mr. Kotter fires back with his own unending wit, and before long, they accept him as one of their own. In return, he is able to teach these students to excel in ways they never thought possible. The 1978-79 season saw the departures of Gabe Kaplan (although he would still come every few episodes) and John Travolta, so a new Sweathog by the name of Beau De LaBarre (Stephen Shortridge) was brought in.

Every Thursday we'd get pizza and watch Welcome Back Kotter followed by Barney Miller. The few times we were ever together as a family.

Welcome back Kotter was great. The characters were unique and blended well together. Gabe Kaplan was also very good in this sitcom and he always ended the show by telling his wife (Marcia Strassman) a joke. Horshack always cracked me up as well as Epsteins notes from his Mother. Mr. Woodman the principal was a crack up with his dry wit and delivery. It's too bad that shows like this have to end.

Vinnie Barbarino was yummy. I had a sweathogs t-shirt and of course when Travolta made a record during those days, I had to run out and buy the 45.
