Two Liverpool children set out in search of love after many years of receiving abuse from their "Uncle" Toby Cromwell. Cromwell is stepfather to the Dove children; their mother having married Cromwell after the death of her first husband, the children's father. Cromwell was granted custody after her death. They eventually settle in Dublin, Ireland where they find they are heirs to their grandparents' estate. But standing in their way is the second in line, Uncle Hawk, who wants the money for himself and plans to make sure the children don't get it. The chase eventually takes them through a parade, and a synagogue among other places as the children hope to have the luckiest St. Patrick's Day by escaping alive to get the inheritence.
