I feel like as a whole there were a lot more really challenging NES games than there are games for systems today. I could play Battletoads on NES every day for the rest of my life and I am fairly certain I would never ever beat it (without warps of course). Playing Battletoads with a Game Genie and infinite lives still ranks as one of the must frustrating video game experiences of my life.

Anyone think there was a harder NES game?

Anyone have the guts to claim they have beaten Battletoads without cheating (of course, you're a filthy liar if you make such a statement ) :)

We used to play Battletoads with my friend in a 2-player-mode and with daily playing we managed to beat that piece of frustrating video game entertainment. After we did it, we decided to find the SNES version and try to beat that also. And guess what, we did it :)

I don't think it's really the hardest game ever.

The thing with those games is that they are so fun to play that the frustrating factor doesn't get that much on the way. For example, I think Ninja Gaiden (Shadow Warriors) is something I don't really want to play much because it's too frustrating and hard.

I had the opposite problem- The Ninja Gaiden Trilogy always came easy to me but I always had trouble with the Battletoads series.

"This game is known to be close to impossible. This single-player run through it uses warps.

Maybe you thought Battletoads was a game full of amphibians, but it is actually full of bugs. Those beta testers really should have spent a little more time on this game... "

Battletoads is like a walk in a park when compared to impossible titles such as "Ghosts'n'Goblins" and "Linus Spacehead." Or so I seem to remember although I never actually beat it, since I only borrowed it for a short time. :?

            Thanks of the link, though.

I never liked that one (or was it two?) Battletoads stages with the bikes. But I did find the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy a lot easier...

Ahh, Battletoads. Good times. My brother is the only one who beat it in my house. I don't know where we be without that Game Genie! :D

Fester's Quest is one of the hardest for the NES. I can't get past a few screen lengths because you get three hits from an enemy and one life before the game is over.

Yeah, I think Fester's Quest and Ghosts 'n' Goblins are both much harder games. I can't pass the ladder part of the second level (in GnG) without using either Game Genie or save states (on emulator). Those damn enemies above are so annoying.

Also, Blaster Master is really hard also.

That's the SNES game Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. That fastest part of the spiked "corridor" was just absolutely insane... and I loved it! Oh, the music during it!!

it seems like I remember the battletoads and double dragon game being easier than when the battletoads were solo. Also Back to the Future II and III was a hard game.

I beat that game within an hour! But I got Battletoads 3 for SNES, and I have not yet ever gotten past the 4th level, & I had this game since it came out.

I hated Bayou Billy- or Deadly Towers-- actualy
those are two games where the main character
                              moved too darn slow!!!

There are some games for the NES I simply hate
because of the music and grafix!!

Or if a game is rediculously unfair or hard to beat--
I just throw it in the garbage or break it--!

Dragon Warrior and it's sequals are
                              my favorites!!!

Music soundtrack for Intelligent Qube- I
still cannot find that darn soundtrack!!

I Qube may be hard for me- but I only play it to hear
                              the music!! :|

The floating stone sections in the levels of Mega Man games are hard, too!

I've never finished either of them, but I can get a lot farther in Battle Toads than I can in Ninja Gaiden III.

Apparently the makers of Fester's Quest thought it was hard, too. They had a competition where if you beat the game, you send in a picture of your TV with the ending. I sent it in but didn't win anything at all. I thought that game was very easy, myself. Battletoads, though, was sooo hard. At least when you were single player and got to the rocket sled thingies. Don't think I ever made it past it. Been years since I tried. NInja Gaiden, part 1, was easy to me. UNTIL the end boss. I NEvER beat him. EVER. And it sent you all the way back to the beginning of the level. Screw that.

Yeah, I'm convinced that anyone who has actually beaten the final Demon boss in Ninja Gaiden was using a game genie or a ROM. :?
