Me personally i'd say yes although some World of Warcraft players aren't like this but you see what happens is people who are just regular people the moment they start playing it there life will change a lot. People who play WoW(no offense if any use this forum) basically don't do much anymore when they start playing they don't watch tv anymore, they don't go outside anymore, they talk about WoW a lot, some even skip school just to play it but however if they start playing WoW they still do things required for living such as eat, sleep, shower etc and some might go on WoW forums dedicated to addicts or perhaps meet other WoW gamers through myspace. I think WoW is a cool game don't get me wrong here but i'm not gonna start playing because i'm afraid I might lose my life and trying to quit playing WoW if I were to get addicted to it would be very challenging.

WoW is a waste of time and a waste of your life. If someone here has not tried it, and are prone to get addicted to online RPGs, DO NOT PLAY IT. I setup a character on my brothers account and played it for a couple hours. It was addicting but i'm not heavy into RPGs. A game has to know when to end. Another turn off is the monthly fee, I refuse to pay monthly for any game. I think you should have to buy the game in the store and the online play should be free. Like Starcraft's battlenet.

Yes all online SHOULD be like that but if you were a huge corperation would you really give them free service when you could make extra millions off the pathetic losers who play the game for hours on end every day and would gladly shell out huge amounts of money. If there wern't people like that than they probably would have made it free.

haha that episode was great, especially when Cartman got mad cause he was the dwarf and then I think Butterz made his character a dwarf. The sad thing is, is that there really are old fat nerds that live in front of the game.

Good point but we should use our retro powers of greyskull and use the thundercats hooooooooooo and turn all online games free?

From my experience with the game, I would have to say yes, it is time consuming when you really get in to it.

When the game was still a beta, I would watch my co-workers stay in the office after their shifts were done just to play. The fact that you had to pay a monthly fee to play totally turned me away from it.

I had a room mate who plays the game very intensively. On weekends he would not even shower and stay in his underwear all day just to play.

2 years after it's release I gave WoW a try...at first, it was very addictive... but after 4 months I got bored with it. I never got a sense of accomplishement like when I would play a final fantasy game... IMO the WoW is too repetitive... I mean sure, as you get stronger, the bosses change, the weapons and armour look cooler... but the quests stay identical and the story doesnt unfold well.

Its my hypothesis that in 50-60 years, historians will track the beginning of the end of the "real world" in games like these. Everyone will be physically plugged into their computer and fed intravenously. It sounds a little crazy... but when this shit is progressing so fast, and graphics are getting so realistic, there will be no need for the real world when we can all go into an artificial one where all activities and states-of-being are possible.

For instance: I could go to the mass murder site and slaughter as many people as possible, playing out the life of a mass murderer.

Then off to the kinky sex channel. Might stay there a while.

Oh, now its off to the travel channel where I can go anywhere in the real world, plus lots of fictional places!

Now, why would anyone want to live in the real world, when that is just as easy?

Its weird hearing people talk about this game like its crack or heroin. I've never played any type of game like it, but I think maybe it'd be best to stay away.

These RPGs are like serial killers in horror movies. They strike people down one by one.

I also think that RuneScape is life consuming (IF you're addicted). I tried it once, it was fun, but I got bored of it.

People talk about MMORPGs like they're the greatest things in the world.

Played the 10 day trial. Got bored after the first 5 days and didn't go back. I can see the appeal from a social point of view, but I found it very difficult to make friends on there so there wasn't really any point of playing.

I've played WoW myself but I only played a couple of hours maybe 2 or 3 times a week. I guess it depends on the person but I do know people who spend most of their days playing. In fact it's the reason I've played in the first place, because you can zone out and play but I hope I never get that addiction bug so many have before. I love online games for the interaction with other people even if you occasionally come across bad attitude and I've grown up with rpg's so mmorpg's make sense to me in that regard.

As for free online, I wish it were possible too, but battlenet is free because your connections is dependant on you and the one your playing, so up to 8 players with the advertisement on battlenet pays for itself. But persistant online games like WoW, EQ2, SWG etc where the world it'self and the npc's that's online would create a huuuuge high cost in bandwidth alone, not to mention the overhead of GM including staff for each server. Working for an online registration and hosting company I've come to know what these costs can entail, the only online game thats free is guildwars and they've gone around it because it's not a persistant world but a series of small instances.

By the way, I put yes on the poll.

im afraid of WoW myself. i have yet to play it but i've heard stories of how people spend so much time playing. i must admit, i had an addiction. I was Counter Strike 1.6 and CZ junky. i could not begin to tell you how much time i spent playing that game. i played once while rollin and played non stop for 9 hours.(thats a long ass time to play a damned game)

To anyone who is considering playing WoW or any other highly addictive game, stay away. Pick up a book or go jogging. Don't make the mistake that so many have made.

Any game can be addicting depending on the person playing it. Twenty years ago The Legend of Zelda was addicting and that was a single player game.

For my brother in law on base thats all he does anymore. Plus thats all he talks about is his wow and how high in level it is. One good thing he said about it you save alot of money when your in army and just play wow all night long.

I have a tendency to get very hooked on games. As such, as much as I love computer games, I've been avoiding MMORPGs including WoW. I've known people who neglected children to play Everquest (or EverCrack, as my friends and I like to call it), and I'd rather not go down that route if I can help it. I get the feeling, however, that in a few years the only computer RPGs worth playing will be online, so I may wind up drinking the Kool-Aid eventually. (Or, maybe I'll just stop and read a book or something.)

The only one I've ever been tempted to play online is Diablo II, and I've primarily been hesitant not just because of the addiction factor, but because I've heard there's a lot of jerks on Battle-Net, not unlike that guy from the South Park WoW episode who kept killing everybody's character-- except, in addition to killing them, they'd rip off all of their nice, hard-to-get equipment, too.

EDIT: I just found a list ActionTrip did of The Ten Most Influential RPGs of Our Time. Look who's number 1.

Not only do I believe its time consuming but its too popular, a boring game, and makes weak skinny kids even weaker. I think all computer games are boring really for that matter. Also, every time I hear someone say "hey my wziard/orc/barbarian or whatever is in those games, is at level 90" I just want to put their arm in a kimura and dont stop until it breaks.
