...would you base one of the game's levels on something you enjoyed doing a lot in real life?

I've always enjoyed travelling to and from France on the ferry, so when I one day get to create my own side scrolling beat 'em up (I know I can create those out of Beats of Rage, I just gotta find a way to be able to work on it), I plan to have one of the levels take place on a ferry, just like the ones I've travelled to and from France on!

In the game I'd make, the good guys would, while saving the town under attack by a criminal syndicate, somehow get on a ferry completed occupied by members of the criminal syndicate they're fighting against!

Why not? It's your game, do whatever you want. It just might not be as serene when you're beating somebody over the head with a steel pipe.

If I would be making a game I would seriously think of that other games I enjoyed playing and go from that.

Doing something you like doing in real life is fun and all, but the fact remains that you can do it in real life, so why do it in video games too... ?
My game will always be masini barbie

Bowling, Casino, Golf, Duck Hunt, Baseball, Tecmo Bowl, Madden NFL, Sega Bass Fishing, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Diner Dash, Pokemon Snap, Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, Just Dance, Cooking Mama...freakin Pong came from tennis. There have always been video games based on real world activities and many are very successful.

Now a ferry ride by itself may sound boring for a game, but the idea is to use it as a stage in a beat-em-up game, which could work fine.
