Yep, that's right! Metroid and Super Metroid have been announced for the Wii's Virtual Console in America, and will be released on August 13th and 20th, respectively, to coincide with the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on the 27th! Terrific news for Metroid fans everywhere!

Looks like I have to buy a new points card. This is totally worth it though. I played the hell out of Super Metroid back in the day. Still the best in the series imo, with MP 1 a close second. Can't wait to revisit it.
I can't wait. Both of those games are awesome.
When I read the title of this thread it made me think of Samus running around VC (As in Vice city) killing people & carjacking them. :D

I beat the original Metroid on my NES, and I never did get to play Super Metroid. It'll be good to finally play it.

I was a bad little boy and got a SEGA Genesis, I didn't get an SNES until a few years ago (although a friend of mine had one, which I played).
I've got most of the classic SNES games now, but I never found a cheap copy of Metroid locally, so I never got it. Something I plan on rectifying here on my Wii soon.
Nintendo offered Wii owners a decent "surprise" when they gave a free MP3 preview complete with trailer and clips. Hopefully tomorrow they will offer a few more goodies to entice people to buy the upcoming adventure.

I had a similar situation to yours, I went with Genesis over SNES as well. Fortunately my friends were (still are) huge Metroid fans so I got to play Super Metroid. Lets just say there's a damn good reason many people have said this isn't just the best 2-D game of all time, but best game of all time, period. The 20th can't get here soon enough.

i wouldn't say BEST game of all time... but definately ONE of the best!!!:D
It's not my favorite of all time either, I'd say that goes to Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I've seen Super Metroid top many best of all time lists in game magazines though. I'd say it's certainly in the top 5, maybe 3.

Funny you say that, because to me, it's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time... but i like the way you think!!! Link is the greatest video game character!!! IMO of course...LOL:D
