I can't believe this!

Sony Europe are pulling the plug on the 60 gig PS3 (which can play PS2 games) in favor of the 40 gig model (which can't play PS2 games) !

I was planning on getting a PS3 next year!

But now....... It looks like I might not.

What are Sony thinking?!?

Sounds like they want to sell more PS3 games.

There aren't enough good PS3 games out there yet :( .
As with the Xbox 360, due to lack of good games, I would rely on PS3 backwards compatibility to give me enough good games until proper good PS3 games become more common.

That's probably because the emotion chip cost way too much for them. I think you can still play PS2 games on the PS3 but you have to download the program from them just like the 360. Ironically, Sony laughed at Microsoft for doing this when the 360 first came out and now they're doing the same thing.

sony really dosent know what their doing to they. sure they have 65 games but how many of them sucked or werent on all the other systems?

Yep, that's why I'm gonna buy a Wii. Because graphics aren't everything. Plus, you can have that Virtual Console which is really cool because you can purchase the games you grew up on.

This truly is a sad day in the Great Console Race.
I was always rooting for Nintendo, but this victory is bitter-sweet. Ever since the Wii had totally stomped on the competition, it seems like no one else is even trying anymore.
Everyone laughed at Nintendo when it created the GameCube, because it seemed completely dwarfed by the behemoths of the PS2 and the Halo console(aka XBOX). Some people even worried about how little Nintendo was selling.
But Nintendo never lost sight of their goal. They wanted good clean fun with enjoyable gameplay. Favoring child-like games was mocked at by Sony and Microsoft, yet appealing to the inner-child was just the break the human race needed. Now Nintendo has taken the crown it rightly deserves. But the way the other consoles are going down is just sad.

... as I am writing this I remember the horribly animated, yet funny cartoon: "Old School Revolution".

That pretty much sums up everything coming up before the Wii. It is quite hilarious.

I liked "Old School Revolution". It does sum up the argument that goes on today about video games. Viva La Revolution!! :)

Well, I think it partly stems from Nintendo's rapid comeback with the Wii, since the huge popularity is too much for Sony & Microsoft to deal with.

don't really have a problem with microsoft or sony(and I already have a Wii) but I wished they both made just one console

Buying an X-Box 360 core or pro, or a PS3 20gig/40gig just doesn't let out the full experience, having the 20gig isn't enough...and a core means to buy a hard-drive, so I'd rather have an 80gig PS3 or Elite... to have it all at once, and i'm not really worried bout the backwards compatible part since i still gots my PS2

still, i'm gettin the 80 gigs(especially since the 60 gigs is being discontinued), can't wait for Ratchet & Clank and MGS4

and the 40 gig is only being sold in pal territories? right?

i liked the playstation but now there really getting to high for my tastes 500$ really? it dosen't even have that many good games on it yet and now no backward compatability they just seem to be forcing people to buy the ps3 games.


and now I don't want to piss off any sony fans but I personally favor the nintendo and xbox it's basically the systems I grew up on so no offense ok.

I never understood why people made such a big deal out of the PlayStation. I think it's the designated geek system and the only people that own PSes are the ones obsessed with RPGs.

there's some other awesome games on the ps's not just rpg's. geek system? where i'm from the simple fact you'll sit at home play on a console on your own makes you a geek!
