The Turbo Grafx 16 "which gave us Bonk" the Jaguar and the Panasonic 3DO. These are the consoles that come to mind when ever it comes to those that are pretty much forgotten. This is a pretty good site for looking at consoles that didn't make the cut.

Sega Saturn and Dreamcast were 2 consoles that were good and had enormous potential but were wiped out by Sony. Sega also had Gamegear, which is portable but was crap compared to Gameboy. Then there was Virtual Boy if that counts as a console.

Neo Geo. I honestly know nobody who had one. $100.00 for an individual console in 1990? I think not.....

The Atari 2600 was going for $120 in 1982.

Just realized, that was a typo on my part. Cartridges were $100.00. The system?
                Well.....
                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Geo_(system)
n the United States, the console was planned to debut at $599 USD and included two joystick controllers and a game, either Baseball Stars Professional or NAM-1975. However, the price was raised and its American launch debuted at $649.99. This package was known as the "Gold System." Later, the "Gold System" was bundled with Magician Lord and Fatal Fury. The system was also released in a "Silver System" package for $399.99, which included one joystick controller and did not include a game. Other games were priced at about $200 (and up). With these "premium" prices, though, most gamers weren't able to afford the system, so the console was only accessible to a niche market.

Dan. You're here?!!!!? Well thats easy. 32X is another one to add to the list if you plan on doing a Odd Pod about failed marketed systems.

For complete and utter fail Konix Multi System is the one for that. The Konix never even made it to market. :D

There was also a dating sim game for CD-i which featured a much younger Heidi Lucas who is probably adorable, cute and pretty looking. I was referring to as Girl's Club: The Fantasy Dating Game.

I've gotta disagree with you there; the Game Gear is actually far superior in terms of technology... it has a full-color, backlit screen (Nintendo didn't do that until the GBA SP many years later), and there was even a TV tuner attachment you could get for it so you could watch actual live TV channels.

The real reason it paled in comparison sales-wise is largely because of lack of consistent exposure through advertising (Sega never learned that lesson, did they?), and where the two companies were at in terms of the consumer market--and also... it goes through a lot of batteries, lol (there's a wall adapter you can get to plug it in though). I love my Game Gear, though. It actually has some pretty good games that make it worth it for that alone, honestly. But I'm a collector, lol

I actually wrote a detailed article on my "top 10" failed/forgotten consoles for Hubpages a few years ago, but it's been unfortunately forgotten too, lol

Would anyone be interested in it if I sort of moved/updated it for an article here? I, uh, have abandonment issues :p

I'm pretty sure Sega CD was a failure, and the only failed system I ever owned. Also the last Sega console I ever bought. Half the time the games just wouldn't work and it wasn't much more fun when they did. Sewer Shark was the only game I remember even remotely enjoying.
