Sadly, I recently played the game for the first time 3 years ago, which is pretty recent for the NES. I remember way back when watching one of my friends play it back in '89 when the game first came out. So I knew about the game the whole time. It looked good for a side scroller, but accually playing it, and grtting more into it, to me it started to feel like an RPG. I would get lost.

Anyone else think it was complicated.

    Fuh-zan-uh-doo, according to Wikipedia.

Anyway, once you get past the point where you have to open the three fountains, the game becomes pretty easy. So easy that you can play it without the use of a Walkthrough/FAQ. And the Level Up system's pretty cool, too.

Just have plenty of red potions for one of the bosses.

Yeah, it's a decent sidescrolling RPG, created by Falcom, creators of the Ys (Ees) series, and the Dragon Slayer series. In the US, Dragon Slayer IV was known was Legacy of the Wizard, and Faxanadu was apparently a spinoff*.

    * No, I did not get this info from Wikipedia.

Or Fuh-Zon-uh-doo, depending on how you pronounce Xanadu.

See, the series is called Xanadu... and they made a version on theFamicom. Put 'em together, you'll get Faxanadu.

Or it could also be Fa[as in fat]-zan-uh-doo.

Thanks for the pronunciation. I haven't played this game in years, but the title refers to was "Xanadu" a movie starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

on Captain N they pronounced it "fax-AN-adu", but yes, in reality the "x" would be soft. both faxanadu and legacy of the wizard are two of the best games of all time

            faxanadu wasn't exactly a spin-off, it was a gaiden.

You can't always trust everything you hear on TV. On the 4Kids version of the Kirby anime, they pronounced DeDeDe's name "Dee-dee-dee" when it's "Deh-deh-deh."

Of course, the way it's pronounced on Captain N could also be true.

                        ... nay, I'm pretty sure it's Fuh-zan-a-doo. Captain N or not, I'm sure it's that.

One things for sure, though, I pronounce Astyanax wrong. I don't know he correct pronounciation of that... I call it Ass-tee-an-ix, but I know it's wrong.
