Remember the many great video game sagas of the 2D era which were state of the art at the time. Then 3D became the standard and all our favorite game franchises had to evolve. Some turned out great, while others became a lesser game then they were when they were in 2D. So tell me, Which do you think were the best? Or which do you think were the worst?

The Ninja Turtles beat um up games did good switching to 3D

I think Castlevania made a crappy switch to 3D. Its not because the game doesnt have the potential, its because the 3D games didnt have all the nice graphics and music of the 2D games. How do you have a Castlevania without flowing red drapes in the windows?

lol yeah, mario really set the standard when he began his jump to 3d. although as for games that are "2.5d", i don't know, they're ok. if you go to the konami messageboards, all of the people actually hate dracula x chronicles, which is kind of disappointing... but sonic should have never made the jump to 3d, if sega can't work out 3d glitches then they should stick to 2d

The only 2-D games series that are fun to play in 3-D are: Mario, Sonic, Pokemon, F-Zero, and Mortal Kombat.

I'm glad you agree with me! :D The Zelda games are only fun in 2-D than they are in 3-D! I didn't even enjoy "Ocarina Of Time" because of that fairy that followed Link around all the time (What was Nintendo thinking??)!

Legend of Zelda and Metroid blew me away when they became 3D.
What I like about them both is the environments. Each one had something different that made them fun.

I never enjoyed the 3D Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games.

STar Fox 64 was amazing, even though it is a remake of the first game, but I'm still waiting for a game that recaptures the Star Fox feel. I liked Adventures and Assault, but they were just too easy. They were just missing certain aspects that made Star Fox great.

I would like to see some improvement on the Pokemon 3D games. I'm hoping that they make one that is more like a 3D version of the games for Game Boy.

Aha, I'm adding you as a friend just for that. xP Yeah, I knew when to listen and whatnot, don't need some stupid fairy telling me! Dx

I really tried beating that game just because everybody else had, I really, really did, but after it went on for so long, and I just got so freaking bored of it, one day I just said "screw this", turned it off, and never touched it again.

You mean like the second game on the Gamecube (not counting "Pokemon Channel")?

Not really. Have it be more of the exploring lands and having Pokemon randomly appear. I don't like choosing where I want to go on a map and then end up there. One thing that I really enjoyed in Pokemon is exploring the worlds and having random encounters with Pokemon. There were also the obstacles that stopped you from going forward. There was just so much in the 2D Pokemon games that isn't present in the 3D games.

Mario - Conversion to 3D: Good
Sonic - Conversion to 3D: Bad

Broken Sword: Get those controls away from me! That part (in BS3) where you had to jump into a car took me like ten tries because the controls were so awkward. Not to mention the number of times I ran from one screen to another just to run back to the former screen, because that's how the two screens react to the same controls. Unless you have the people responsible for Grim Fandango in your team, stick to point 'n click.

                          Mario: Perfection.

Zelda: Good and bad. The 3D Zelda games are very good, but I don't get why there is such a difference with the 2D games. I tend to think that Zelda never made the jump to 3D, because the 3D Zelda games are worlds apart from the 2D Zelda games.

Metroid: Sweet!, but I do hope they will try a third person-perspective in a future game now that the Metroid Prime series is finished. And who game with that awful design of Samus that first appeared in MP2?

Warcraft: I hate this franchise so much since Warcraft 3.

Sonic: I still don't get how they manage to screw this up every single time.

Duke Nukem: Same as with Zelda.
If anyone can help me get my hands on King Arthur and the Knights of Justice episodes (other than the first five which were released on DVD way back in 2004), please contact me (PM). I really want to see this show again.

1993-1996 were the years of transition from 2-D to 3-D, and unfortunately a few franchises didn't do so well. Sonic, Mega Man, and Castlevania are to name a couple. Some of these are best suited to 2-D, no matter how screwed up they look in 3-D.

Oddworld turned from 2d to 3d with "Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee"
and to be honest it actually wa slightly BETTER! The camera angles were a bit dodgy and Abe had to collect that stupid spooce stuff just to possess someone but other than that it was pretty damn good.

One game series that deserves 3-D game play is Kirby. So far, the only 3-D adventure of Kirby was "Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards" on the N64, and that was actually played like a 2-D adventure (not that that's a bad thing at all...).

Kirby 64 lost all hope when I found out it had no co-op adventure, which is what the most recent Kirby games at the time had been known for. Not to mention I didn't really care for the storyline, and I think the camera was too close to Kirby most of the time. I'd say that's a bad jump.

They probably should have had Kirby wearing the hats he wore in "Kirby Superstar" for each form; now THAT would have made it more noticeable!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that, too. Of course, the hats were brought back in the Super Smash Bros. games, not to mention later Kirby games, so at least they realized they fucked up.
