When I was younger for Christmas my parents would buy me games for my NES and some I thought I wouldn't like. One in particular that comes to mind is Rampage. I looked at the box and felt disappointed being 8 or maybe 9 I hadn't played it in the arcade or on any system so all I had to go on was the box and a picture of a Godzilla-like and King Kong-like monster climbing on buildings but I was never one to return stuff especially knowing my parents spent their own money on it. So reluctantly I opened it and much to my surprise I fell in love with the game. Rapidly it became the only game I played consistently and still play to this day. Be it the original NES version or other newer versions even though the newest cant hold a candle to the old stand by. Destroying cities and eating people what couldn't I love about it. Now as I look back Rampage along with Super Dodgeball are my favorite games of all time on the NES. So which games did you think you wouldn't like but actually did?

Rampage was fuckin' awesome--such a simple concept, but addictive and fun nonetheless!

I used to think that Legend of the River King looked better than Pokémon Red and Blue from what I saw in Nintendo Power.

I think my avatar (and screen name to an extent) speaks for that outcome.

When I was young, Final Fantasy VII. My brother bugged me over and over and over again to play it, and I finally did, and suddenly I found the game to be not so bad.

I thought I wasn't going to like Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete because of how hard it was at the beginning, but after training a bit more, it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time.

If I ever get a Genesis and a Sega CD, that's going to be first on my games list.

Basically all my games I had to buy myself. And most of them I rented myself before buying them. Hmm which games surprised me....contra hard corps. Oh also harvest moon, ddr, EVO, and kirby's dream course.

When "Super Mario 64" first came out, I thought I wouldn't like it because of it being in 3-D, and I thought 3-D games would be hard to play.

Phantasy Star III. I've only had it for a couple years, and I had PSII and PSIV for a few before that. I'd read how everyone on the internet said it sucked because it was so different, and how it had little to do with the main series. But, I didn't like having that empty space, so, off to find PSIII I went.

Man, those people were wrong. Sure, it's very different, and the story and gameplay aren't as good as PSII & IV, but still. It's vastly underrated.
