Who remembers the FamiCom Disk System accessory that was made available in Japan for the Nintendo FamiCom, but did not reach any market outside of Japan?

It was the F.D.S. that served as the launchpad for such hot properties like The Legend of Zelda (and its sequel, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link) and Metroid.

The F.D.S. unit (which didn't actually use a wall adapter, but rather 6 "C" batteries) was notorious for using non-standard drive belts, and even so, they warped/melted overtime. Their disks were also of a rare format, and they were prone to having errors in them (even one bad sector renders these disks unusable).

Mezase Master has a lot of games for it, but no addon for his Famicom. Other than that I don't know anything else about who owns one.

Well if you wanted to play the original SMB2(not usa) and some different Zelda dungeons and such.. I say it needs to be on the Virtual Console!(I already have them emulated but for those who want legal emulation   )

I hate the nes zelda. Only advantage I can see is you can save your game in metroid. Seriously there's no good games for this thing. And the disks die so easily

That's why I said emulation was the way to go for this....

Or you could buy the games legally. There's an idea.

                        what happened to siouxie's posts?

anyway back on topic: i want one. hopefully, through use of an adaptor i can play it on my gn twin. if my luck is REALLY good, i'll find an official nes toploader of a famicom to play it on.

                            it's called the "AV famicom"

                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AV_Family_Computer

and believe me they're not cheap. I got one shipped for 100$ and that's sadly a really good price. Only because the japanese guy had terrible english and listed it wrong so buyers weren't able to find it unless they typed in "famicom" and went through the many pages of listings (which is how I found it)

....however the original famicom is also a top loader.....and it's ultra ugly too! Like a reject from tron! But it certainly works with the disk system

yes, i've heard of the av famicom, the japanese equivelant of the nes 2/"toploader". would an rf famicom (for lack of a better term) be cheaper?

EDIT: oh now i see why your confused. because i said "nes toploader of a famicom" instead of "nes toploader or a famicom.
