Which consoles (of any type from any company) do you think are underappreciated?

Here are my thoughts:

SEGA Saturn

In my book, the Mega Drive is the king of the consoles, and the Saturn is the prince. I think the Saturn is a great console, but it makes me sad to see it not really take off, unlike its 2 wildly popular predecessors, the Master System and Mega Drive; Sony had to spoil it all with their PlayStation, which was a roaring success. I do realise that SEGA made some errors with the Saturn: Insufficient publicity, inclusion of a scart lead instead of an RF one, less 3rd party support than the PlayStation and maybe a few more. The Saturn is still my 2nd favorite console and although towards the end of its life back then I wanted to give it up in favor of the PlayStation, I still wish the Saturn took off just like the Master System and Mega Drive did.

SEGA Dreamcast

The Dreamcast. Yet another great console from the great company they call SEGA. It seemed to be more successful than the Saturn to start with, but ended up failing more miserably than the Saturn when the PS2 hit the shelves. In the big scheme of things, I blame Peter Moore for the Dreamcast's failure and SEGA going 3rd party instead of doing more consoles. It would have been SO nice to see the Dreamcast be a bigger success than it really was!

SNK Neo Geo Pocket

One of the VERY few handhelds I prefer to Nintendo's mighty Game Boy. The Neo Geo Pocket is simple, compelling and fun! Its games are great, the system itself looks cool, its battery life is unrealisticly long, and, simply, it feels homely. I had high hopes for the handheld and thought it would eventually eclipse Nintendo's Game Boy, but I shouldn't have got my hopes up: The system failed and when I heard the news about it being discontinued, I was in tears.
I blame SNK themselves for the system's failure: inadequete 3rd party support and not enough publicity.

The Dreamcast for sure, it never gets any love. But Sega needed to learn a hard lesson. When you can openly burn games for a system that doesnt require a mod chip, no kidding it is going to fail.

Later models of the Dreamcast couldn't play copied games.

Saturn and Dreamcast are definitely underrated systems, I also think Gamecube is one as well.

I think Saturn and Dreamcast are fighting gamers' dream systems. I wish they would've done better, although I find it ironic that Microsoft was the downfall of the Dreamcast, then comes in THAT SAME GENERATION with their own system.

              3DO never got any lovin'

 Here's a few pointers on why exactly I found it to be extremely underappreciated:

-> It beat Atari Jaguar in the short-lived newgen 32-bit consoles.
-> The hardware was fairly powerful, and at the time... the most powerful besting Jaguar, Phillips CD-i, & the 16-bit contenders (SNES, Genesis).
-> Although initially expensive, it eventually became more affordable and had a wide variety of games.
-> The controller... although limited to 5-actual buttons, was unique with the ultra long cord, the daisy-chaining, and the headphone jack on the controller itself.
-> It wasn't the first to play CD-games (Phillips beat them to it), but it was certainly the best and therefore opened the doors to much better quality music, video footage, and voice in games that were rare with the previous generation.

              Game-wise... it was underappreciated.
:!: Twisted. The best gameshow game you will ever play, past or present hands-down.
:!: Zhadnost: The People's Party. The 2nd best gameshow game you will ever play, past or present.
:!: 3DO's own line of games including: Captain Quazar & the awesome, but underperforming Killing Time.
:!: Pataank, Demolition Man (one of the best graphics on the system including great movie footage), PO'd, & Return Fire (featured on "In The Army" with Pauly Shore).
:!: With the gun, you've opened yourself to the whole American Laser Games line of FMV shooters like Who Shot Johnny Rock, Crime Patrol (probably the best of them all), Mad Dog... etc.

Then there's the games that basically either introduced the new series, or helped evolve into the games-of-today.
              > Road Rash... vastly improved from Genesis days
              > Need For Speed... need we say more?
              > Madden Football... introduced to 32-bits of glory. Lack of a full license hurt, though
              > Samurai Shodown, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, & Primal Rage... all near-arcade perfections which couldn't previously be replicated by the current gen at that time.

Yea, I had a lot of 3DO games. Back in those days, my part-time job was spent blowing money in games... so I have a fondness of the 3DO. There were a LOT of duds, don't get me wrong... but there were also a lot of highlights!

I agree with anyone who has said both the Saturn and Dreamcast were under appreciated systems, Had Sega never released the Sega CD or 32X...people might have taken those systems more seriously.

Game Boy Advance, I prefer it over the DS, at least in terms of games. I concur with anyone who mentioned the Saturn and Dreamcast as underated systems.

                    Anymore love for the Gamecube?

Game Boy Advance was very popular and successful though. Not exactly what I would call underappreciated.

I just don't hear much about it anymore.

That's because the GBA is as good as dead and we have moved on to the next generation. The GBA definitely wasn't underappreciated. Heck in some ways it was more popular than the orginal Game Boy and it's lifespan was quite long too.
