Ok everyone, this is a good one.

Which RPG game was the best over the other?

Final Fantasy 7 or Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger was (in my own opinion) the greatest RPG that was ever made, while Final Fantasy 7 is my 2nd all time favorite (both made by Square)

Though the graphics for PSone's Final Fantasy 7 were much more advanced in quality than SNES's Chrono Trigger, the story line, music, animation, and gameplay is nothing compared to that of Chrono Trigger.

I loved going back in time and changing history, this was a brilliant concept. I feel so bad and till this day cannot understand why Square never followed up with this game with a series like Final Fantasy. Yes they came out with Chrono Cross, which was a great game, but that was the last we have ever heard of Chrono.

What's even worst was a team of programmers were creating a revision of Chrono Trigger in 3D for the PC, and was quickly stopped with a cease and decease letter from Square Enix.

Well, I feel Chrono Trigger is by far the winner of the 2, what do you think?

It's kinda hard to compare the two. Both have retarded fanbases, but ignoring all that I'm not sure which I like better.

FF VII is a nice long game that offers shit loads of side-quests to do to keep it going even further.

Chrono Trigger's shorter, but has extremely high re-playability.

I had fun with both games, but I'll probably go with FF VII 'cause I spent a lot of hours into it.

Final Fantasy 7 was good because it was something new, (never a game with multiple Cd's at the time) and one of the longest RPG's ever made.

Chrono Trigger was not long but not that short either, but also was not forgettable as a game in a whole.

The soundtrack from Chrono Trigger was so great they released a soundtrack of the game soon after its release.

Chrono Trigger for the DS was a disappointment since nothing was really added or changed from the original, I would at least wished for them to make it a more 3d look at least.

I agree with pretty much all of this statement. I've never thought Chrono Trigger was good at all, and FFVII destroyed a series that, up until that point, had been consistently solid.

To think, I actually went through my entire childhood without touching either of these supposed "best games of all time" O_O I feel so deprived! Anywho, I actually did go back a few years ago and downloaded Chrono Trigger and play FF VII, didn't beat either of them, but played a good amount. They were both a lot of fun, but I wouldn't classify either of them as "best game of all time" material.

As for which one was better, it really would be hard to compare the two, but I'd probably have to go with FF VII, since it was a more involved game. I like games with tons of shit to do that are overstuffed with side-quests.

i dont think it's right to compare games that were made years apart with technological differences.

what are you talking about? there are two new dungeons, which are great for leveling up, a new ending, and all of the movies from the playstation version are included!

also seeing it in 3D on the ds probably wouldn't have turned out so well seeing as every DS cart is at least 60mb

I would like to debate that Chrono Trigger was a great game. In my opinion, it was not the greatest RPG ever made. I know you were making an opinion and I respect that. If my opinion, the greatest RPG ever made was Dragon Warrior 4 for the NES.

It's quite possible. It's definately the best on the NES.

Crono Trigger because it has more replayability, the game concept was unique at the time, the battle engine was interesting, and the game had the most catchy music.

For me its impossible to compare the two games. These games were both made in two very different time-frames of gaming. So each has their own greatness to it. So i cannot pick either one and just say its a draw for me.

Ok, better yet, lets just conclude that chrono trigger was the best rpg for snes, and final fantasy 7 was the best rpg for the original playstation, do you agree?

I think its trendy to say Chrono Trigger because that's the older game and therefore you are a more hardcore retro gamer if you choose that one...

but I'd say FFVII is better. I just had a lot more fun playing it. Chrono Trigger is good and all, but FFVII just blew me away.

No, I'd actually vote for Breath of Fire II and Dragon Warrior VII, respectively.

Why not compare Chrono Trigger to an SNES game that was equally as well-known, though, like Final Fantasy III? I'm sure you'd get a much more in-depth debate.

I have been a big fan of chrono trigger for years. The love of the artwork, the music, and the different and still to me fresh battle system has made me come back at least every other year to beat it. I liked Final Fantasy VII alright. This being my opinion though, I would have to say final fantasy VI had a better setup. That and it was one of the few games were the villian just said," Yeah, I DID destroy the world!" Thus making the second half very different and changing the game up greatly. I would still have to say Final Fantasy games up until 10-2 were good. Over the past few years square doesn't appear to have good games coming out anymore. They are really declining..so they release handhelds of there good games. If they retooled some of seven...fixed some story errors and made the game make a tiny bit more since, I would enjoy it more. Now I am through with my ongoing tangent.

Well, FF7 isnt even my favorite final fantasy game. Everyone knows FF3 (FF6) is the best one. So, im giving the win to Chrono Trigger.
