As if I wasn't excited enough about this new 2D Mario platformer...I just found out it has been confirmed that the original 7 Koopalings will be in the game! Here's a picture taken at E3 of someone fighting Morton Koopa Jr...and word is going around that Larry Koopa was also spotted while the game was being played at the show.
I was really getting worried that Nintendo had replaced them with Bowser Jr. for good...so I'm really glad to see this. Since New Super Mario Bros. Wii will cater the most to old-school Mario fans, it makes perfect sense that Nintendo put the Koopalings in this game.

Yoshi is also back and rideable in the game as shown in the trailer. He will also be rideable in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Not to mention the return of the SMW Spin Jump.
I hated New Super Mario Bros and this looks like the same uninspired trite Nintendo tried to shove down our throats on the DS. I seriously hope the art direction and level design is going to be a little more creative on this one or I think I'll pass.

Whoa, the original Koopalings? Fucking awesome! :D Have they even been in anything since Super Mario World, save for ports of that and Super Mario Bros. 3? I know there have been some inane references to at least one of them in Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, but that's it...

Yes, Mezase Master. Their last appearances, as far as I know, was Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on the Gee Bee Ay.

The whole point of the New Super Mario Bros. games are to cater to the fans of the old-school 2D Mario games. They aren't supposed to be anything revolutionary or filled with state of the art graphics and eye candy. The 2D Mario games have always been simple looking compared to other games. Even Super Mario Bros. 3 had simple looking graphics and backgrounds compared to other NES games such as Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Battletoads, etc. The same can also be said about Super Mario World.

And I know that. Maybe I should have phrased it better. Take Super Mario Bros 3. Every world in it was seriously unique and had some sort of gimmick to keep things interesting. Aside from the changes in scenery New Super Mario Bros completely failed to deliver in that aspect. It dissapointed me in terms of diversity and I hope that this new installment will make up for that.
The return of the 7 kids is cool though. Bowser Jr was too much of a cliche for my taste.

I remember back before the DS game came out, there was an interview in Nintendo Power magazine with one of the game's creators, and NP asked him if the koopalings would be in the game. He said "yes", and everyone thought he meant Bowser's original 7 kids, when he really meant Bowser Jr. He apologized in a later interview for not being more clear about who he meant.

Crapfest? According to Mezase Master, Hotel Mario was actually decent. People only assume it's crap because of the fucking CD-I Zelda games and it's hilarious cutscenes. This is what we call "YouTube Poop people" or alternatively, "YouTube Poopers."
I actually played it for myself a few years back...and I didn't like it at all aside from laughing at how bad the cutscenes were.

Yeah it is. Just not oh-so-terrible like most people say.
I'm looking forward to New Super Mario Bros. Wii (not as much as Super Mario Galaxy 2). Riding Yoshi, Toad/Toads being playable, 2-D gameplay, the Koopalings return and a 4 player mode on top make this game a must have for my Wii.
I enjoyed NSMB on DS quite a bit so I'm definitely picking this up. The koopalings returning is a very nice bonus.

man i hope the next one is more than just a retro-modern mario game.
