It is about four kids who run away from home somehow. I'm not sure why, but I think it had something to do with their dog who was about to be put to sleep or their parents being too cruel. In one scene, the kids make their getaway by stealing a Volkswagen beetle, but it is unknown where their destination is. While on the road, the Wilson Philips song “Hold On” is heard in the background. The story is actually told through a old woman talking on the phone with someone. She even has a model of where the kids have been driving to, including a desert. The movie had to have come out sometime in the late 80s or early 90s.
I don't remember the middle part of the film, but the ending involved the kids making yet another getaway and stealing a bus to go home, which they are later stopped. I saw this movie in my third grade class more than 15 years ago. It's kind of a tearjerker. If anybody has any information on it, please let me know.

It's called "ON OUR OWN" I remember it. They were foster children and were going to be seperated. Their mother had just died and they leave to find their last remaning relative who knows nothing aboutr them... a rich uncle with a personal plane. (Which they fly)
