I'm going with the 1990s, one of the weakest era's in music history.

What about you?

90s was on a bit of a decline but it was still tolerable and alright. In fact I liked 90s music alot. I'll go as far to say that the mainstream music really went downhill by 2005-2008. Few songs after this point is tolerable, but that's just my opinion. The 2000s had its own sound which, although I'm not as found of that compared to the 80s, is alright. I notice lots of people seem to have a different idea of this, hell someone I know feels everything after the 50s was downhill. Everything from the 50s-00s had its own kind of sound, whether that be good or not. These days all music and culture seems to be so bleak and bland, everything feels and sounds the same. Like I said this is just my own opinion.

This is an exceedingly tricky thing to define since everyone praises the music from their time. I noticed this very strongly when I went to a home where elderly people lived, and as most people would guess, they were watching tv and listening to music from their time when they were younger. Music has to do more with our emotional state of the time listening than anything else. Sometimes, even if music is bad, we associate it to something personal that is happening to us at the time. So, it's relative. What I will agree with is what is happening in a larger scale. Like movies, music is a gamble and so much investment is needed, so they prefer to produce some formula that they know will sell instead of quality. No one wants to take huge risks anymore.

Just before or around the 2000's. Then everything got homogenized, and they started blending genres. And putting (c)rap segments into wildy different songs, usually with a negative, contrary message to the song itself.
