What commercials scared you as a kid? One commercial that scared me was the smoking ad where it showed a woman smoking and developing tar all over herself. Also, there was this multiple sclerosis ad where it showed a person getting chained around her body.

The smoking commercial where there was this lady who sounded like E.T. with asthma.

The drug PSA where the drug dealer turns into the Snake Man scared the crap outta me when I was a kid

I'm re-posting the comment I posted on the other thread, in the hopes that somebody remembers these commercials:

The two commercials that scared me most when I was little, I can't remember what were for. Both aired around 1988/1989 in the Washington, D.C. area. Can anyone help me identify these commercials?

One opened with the line, "It's a new day in Washington...." It showed a rambler-style house in the dark. The end of the commercial showed someone wearing heart monitors running on a treadmill (i.e. taking a stress test). The commercial may have been for a hospital or health insurance company, but I just don't remember. I don't know why this commercial scared me so much, but it did.

The second commercial opened with an elderly lady falling down the steps. I believe it was for First Alert, but I have searched those commercials (and Life Alert commercials) on YouTube, and could not find anything close to what I remember.

That's because I didn't know what smokers sounded like back then. Now, all I can think of is...
"WHAT? WHAT ARE THEY SELLING?"
EDIT: And Zorak kinda sounds like a smoker as well
