Man, I LOVE EATING OUT!!!! I do it all the time. It's OK though, because I also walk all the time. So I always burn it off. Anyway le's talk about restaurants, that you really liked when you were little, and still like today. Two of them I would like to mention Bob Evans, and Papa John's Pizza. Even though I haven't eaten there in a few years. Why? Because they're not as good as they used to be. Bob Evans' dinner rolls are just as good as they always have been, but not their Grilled-Cheese Sandwiches. Oh no. They used to be really good, when I was younger. Now it's like they're barely even cooked. I remember when Papa John's first came out, they put the pepperoni under the cheese. Now they put the pepperoni on top. People who remember Papa John's when it first came out agree that their pizza's not as good as it used to be. But it's good enough that they're still #1 in customer satisfaction. I'm told that Domino's got a new pizza recipe. Is their pizza just as crappy as it's always been? Or has it improved a little? What are some restaurants that you really liked when you were little, and still like today, but aren't as good as they used to be?

I remember an old restruant called Shoney's that use to be in the city 15 minutes west of me and we would go there all the time. Breakfast was always piping hot; and I would always get a Shoney's bear when I had good grades or whatever. I remember a waitress named Rachel who would let me take the straw out of her apron when I got a soda. They closed it down when I was maybe 12. The last one I went to was in Bowling Green, KY.

I'm sorry, forgive the mis-spelling. I meant restaurant.

I fixed my spelling too. We all make spelling mistakes once in a while.

I've been there a few times on road trips. I think they are still around.

Where I live, they left like in the late 90s early 00s. Last time I ate there was when I was 15. I miss the cheesy broccoli soup, the breakfast.

I remember Shoney's on road trips from Maine to Florida. The last time I ate at one was in the VERY early 90s when Ray Charles was still into that diet pepsi "You got the right one baby, uh uh" stuff. They had the Ray Charles taste test there I remember doing lol. That was probably '91 or '92.

When I was younger The Ground Round was a cool place for us to eat. The food in reality i'm sure was pretty mediocre. Probably around the Denny's type of food. But they gave you baskets of buttered popcorn while you looked at the menu and there was a small movie screen set up in the middle of the restraunt surrounded by a bunch of kiddie seats. Kids could go and watch Popeye or Tom and Jerry and stuff like that. I THINK it might have finally closed years ago but i'm not positive. I think before they did, they replaced the big screen with old cartoons and the little theatre feel to the bunch of little flat screen tvs all around the place. I'm sure they ditched the popcorn and switched to either bread or nothing at all to munch on.

As for Dominos, I think it tasted the best back in the day but I don't care for it these days.

Not exactly fine dining, lol, but back in the day every friday when we'd go grocery shopping we'd get a happy meal from McDonalds. Back then it was a treat and it tasted amazing. In the 90s McDonalds became overkill when we were in highschool and we ate it a bit to much and now it's just kind of gross.

I always loved Olive Garden growing up as well.

Our house was located in a sort of semi-suburb so there weren't too many restaurants close by. However, these was an Italian place near my street that nobody ever went to. I mean,I went by that place for over a decade and it always looked empty. Maybe it was because it didn't look like an Italian restaurant, but it was probably because of the shitty pizza. But I'm wondering now if it wasn't some sort of Mafia front...

When I was around 5th grade (11 years old), my parents and I started eating out every Friday night (switching to Saturday nights a few years later). We usually ate at a different restaurant each week. We often ate at the (now closed) Perkins Pancake and Steak House, Denny's, Pizza Hut along with several local Chinese restaurants, diners/"mom and pop" restaurants. Eating out every Friday night was another reason to look forward to the weekends, since I've always loved eating out! Before we started eating out on Fridays, I've always associated eating at restaurants with traveling and special occasions.

There used to be a Dairy Queen by my house growing up. I would ride my bike there every Friday evening and get food. I would usually play video games while I was waiting for my order to get made. There was another burger place right next to it which was ran by an Asian family. I would go there too from time to time. The Dairy Queen became a Dairy Country (which was a Dairy Queen rip off) for a few years. Both places are gone and I think the Dairy Queen became some kind of Mexican strip club.

On Saturdays we would get either fast food, order a pizza or go out to eat someplace. We never cooked on Friday or Saturday nights.

There are plenty of Shoney's around East Tennessee. I really only cared for their breakfast. We didn't really eat out much at all growing up. We would order Pizza's, but that was about it. We couldn't afford it. Growing up we enjoyed Domino's and then around the late 90's Paps Johns came to town and we switched over. However with Domino's new recipe being way better, we switched back recently.

I never considered pizza and fast food "eating out." Take out MAYBE... but I grew up in a city that is known for its fine dining (Gordon Ramsey was there last year to help a restaurant and he touted the the city's cuisine), so we didn't have too many chain places anyway. We'd get pizza once a week from various Mom and Pop places or make our own, but fast food was always for trips. I'd never been to places like Olive Garden or TGIF until college. Hell, I went to Red Lobster for the first time last week!

My parents have always been into gourmet food. They collect recipes and cook them at home. I wish I liked cooking that much. Though we did enjoy going to IHOP for brunch until it burned down.

I, too, remember Shoney's on the drive down to Florida. We stopped at like 3 of them. Then half the people on our school trip got a horrible stomach flu so we associated Shoney's with getting sick. Don't know if I can go back there.

Oh yea I forgot. For a few years my mom, dad and I would go to Denny's on Friday nights after he got off work at 11 pm. Other than that we never went to too many sit down places as we didn't have much money then.

I remembered another one. We always used to like eating at Bonanza. When I think back on it now, I have NO idea why because the food wasn't that great, but for some reason we loved it. You'd grab a tray, push it down the line, look at the menu, let the cashier know what you wanted, pay, grab your number, push your tray down to get your drinks and then go find a table and wait for your food. The salad bar had like six diferent colored butters (I think there were rolls at the salad bar) that had been scooped by ice cream scoops. I believe it was torn down years ago.In some areas they may have been called Ponderosa instead of Bonanza.

I miss that with Sizzlers. There was a truck stop restaurant that was called Chloe's close to my hometown. My grandma, grandpa and I would go there and eat lunch. I would always get a grilled cheese with vegtable soup. That was amazing! Now it's a Dennys. The old Ma and Pop places we grew up with aren't around anymore. There was a diner in my hometown that made THE best tenderloins ever!
