aside from scooby do and the rest of the classic popular bigname dogs out there, a factor of fun in classic cartoons was a certain so-called man's best friend. right! the dog of the house! you knew if there was a dog somewhere lurking around, it meant trouble! what made it worst for the character, but funny for us, was that most likely the dog will bite. you knew the bite would come up when he made a little bark before he bit him/her. mailmen had the hardest time. one of my favorite watchdogs was grizwalt from Top Cat.
a 90's kid, and i'm damn proud of it!

I'm reminded of an old droopy cartoon that was a take on the 3 little pigs. The wolf (in the role of a truant officer IIRC) was knocking on the 3 little droopys' house. One time they shot him in the pants with a giant bullet, and he changed behind a screen, leaving the bullet sticking out of the pants. Another time a bulldog latched onto his butt & he did the same thing with leaving the dog attached to the pants.

Well for my dad and I, Spike and Tike from the Tom and Jerry cartoons are near the top of our favorite cartoon watch dogs.

Also I always loved Dino from the Flintstones...I mean who wouldn't want their own dino-pup ^ ^
