Yep, I remember that game. Used to play it in Elementary school (1986-1992), along with Number Munchers, Word Munchers, and Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego.

The only thing I hated about Oregon Trail was the fact that no matter what, seems your entire party would still die off before reaching your destination. ><

My favorite part of the game, though, was the hunting portion. I never could shoot anything. lol

Just to think, that's when computers actually used floppy disks, literally. Call me old-fashioned, but I liked those better than the ones we have now, because I've never once had a problem, like the disk getting stuck in the drive, not like with the diskettes we use now.

Man, I used to LOVE that game! I actually have an Apple II emulator program so that I can play the actual old school version on it, complete with the crappy hunting! The newer versions just didn't do it for me.

Wow!! Mind sending me that program, along with the game? I've been looking for this for a good while so that I could show it to my younger cousin.

I used to play that game non-stop back when I was a kid. And yeah, there's nothing worse than having most of your team dying way before you reach Oregon. I remember this one time, I was 5 miles within Oregon, and my last person died.

That used to be mandatory in gradeschool. OT and old school Carmen Sandiego. I always spent most of the game trying to hunt and almost always died. Good times.

I grew up in Oregon so I got to play it a lot ;)
When I die, I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandpa did. Not like the screaming passengers in his car.

My favorite thing to do was name people in my party things like My Penis so it would say things like My Penis got bitten by a rattlesnake. That was hilarious in grade school.

Man, the last time I played that, I was in 5th grade. As a reward, we would get to jam it on the Apple II's. Then came typing class in 6th grade. We were so stoked to come in one Friday and see Spy Hunter loaded up on all the C64's.

 That was my only incentive to go to any computer class! We always put funny names in for the tombstones like "The Bastard" or "My Ass" which always got me in trouble. I never really made it to Oregon either.

                            OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH KAY!

Pardon me for waking the dead, But I did that search thingy and found this. I was really looking for Munchers and Oodle Lake . But seeeing this brought back memories. So I'm gonna do my things to Know about Oragon trail.

                            1. Go as a banker, You'll have more money that way.

                            2. If you eat to much go meager. you don't have to go to extremes with bare bones , but always try to hunt and buy more but watch you're budget.

                            3. go grueling to steady, going grueling can make you go faster to reach the next landmark, but It can make your players rest less.

                            4. Don't be stupid at rivers. Check the depth of the river If you know you'll won't be able to forge/ford the river then don't, I've lost to many players due to stupid players.

                            5. Chances suck , as with the river chances are if you try to float ,You'll tip over . Also the same with Axles and or wheels If they break, you may not be able to fix them and waste a wheel or axle to continue.

                            6. You may be a sharpshooter, but you can't lift sh*t, you can endanger the whole forest and mountains as you please , but you'll only be able to take 100 pounds of meat.

                            7. No replacemant for replacement, if you lose something and have enough for a budget , buy whatever you need to keep the game going.

                            8. Know your location. mostly this replies to any landmark you reach. first off , When you reach Independence Rock, GET THE F**K AWAY FROM THERE!!! , 1. the rock was cursed , poisoned and just really bad news. 2 notice the names there? well there the names of people who died. so If you decide to stay there, they my friend you'll die. AND THEN MY FRIEND YOU DIE MAN!!! and then my friend........................YOU DIIIIIIEEEEEE!!!
ahem... and besides there's no stores . so MOVE IT!

                            9. Have sane, smart players. those who won't go crazy after every player dies or reaches poor or very poor on heath status. oh god that reminds me of the Guy I knew at school Who had the last name of Dingfeld (boy with a name like that you know he has to be f**ked in the head, matter in fact he was)he just act like a retardt whenever somthing happened, so we just punched him or shoved him away , or because of the teachers , just ban him. i'm sure you're aware of this time to time.

                            10. Know what you're doing. nuff said.

and when you reach Oregon, you can take the easy but boring road or go down the river .

just steer clear of obsticals and you'll be fine.

                            and there you are

Yeah I remember Oregon Trail and puttin funny shit on the tombstones so others in your class could find it, that was great. Also, I played number munchers quite a bit as well, especially the prime numbers version. But my real question is, does anyone remember a game that was out around the same time as oregon trail, maybe even a little later, 92-93 where you went fishing and there were fish such as rainbow trout and there was always the bird...the osprey?

                              Odell Lake!

hey kesh1k, can you let me know where you got it?

On top of this game, I loved the Magic Mountain/Midnight Madness series. I think it was called Super Solvers collectively. The games were essentially educational programs designed with incredibly long sequences for "completion" so I kid could play it a little each day, and still not have finished it by the end of the school year. I've (sadly) resolved to acquire an old Mac and get copies of these games, or find programmers to get emulators of them made :D

Well, just made it to Oregon on my first try, with 5 ppl in good health, no money left, and 2686 total points. I was number five on the leader board of the emulator, so I entered Phil McCroch as the name.

                                      Cool game.
