Come on, people, The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers?
"From Montreal to Memphis, parlez-vous français?
Tell all the girls, da Rougeaus on their way!"
"We don't like heavy metal, we don't like rock and roll.
All we like to listen to is BARRY MANNILOW!
(inaudible prattling in french)
We're All-American Boys, All-American Boys!"
And so on. One of the best gimmicks ever, too.
I don't know how you could forget Randy Savage and "Pomp And Circumstance". Gave me chills every time. It suited him perfectly, especially after he became the Macho King.
Forget the DX theme, the real classic is "Sexy Boy" sung in its entirety (not just the first line) by Sensational Sherri.
Of the ones mentioned there, I'd go with Bret. Not the Ättitude-era remix with the overdubbed guitar riff, but the original.
Seconded on the Mr. Perfect and Ted DiBiase mentions. Now if there was ever a lost art, it's wrestling themes. I'm so sick and tired of the same old crappy guitar noodling followed by some unintelligible metal rantings: "Blaaaah blaaah blah blah keep me dowwn!"" It just saps all the excitement out of a guy's entrance. In the olden days, wrestlers NEVER changed their theme music, except (and always) when they turned*. It was an essential part of the character, maybe even the MOST essential back then. Now, everybody gets a new totally unnecessary remix every month or so, or the new song by whichever band is sponsoring the PPV, completely without rhyme or reason.
*The two exceptions were: Tag teams (Hart Foundation, Demolition, Nasty Boys, etc.) and those cases where the music is so identifiable (Dibiase, Perfect, Jake, Undertaker, Savage) that it would have been foolish to change it. It occurs to me that a big part of getting the megastars of the modern era (Rock, Austin, DX, The nWo) over was the company going out of their way to craft really distictive entrance music. No such luck for the Randy Ortons and Edges of the world, I suppose.
So yeah, rant over. Good thread :D
