I am a loyal fan of Sesame Street and so are many other people out here. So needless to say I was very surprised to not find any reference to it here. Granted, it does still exist today, but, if I may be bold enough to say so, it's only a skeleton of what it used to be. IMO, they may as well just re-name todays show for what it truely is, call it "The Elmo Show", and let the old show rest in peace. I truely miss the show the way it was before Elmo took over, so this thread is dedicated to the Sesame Street of yeasterday, and any memories are welcome to be shared here. I also am searching for a fresh resource of recorded episodes to trade. If anyone out there would be interested in obtaining copies of SS episodes that were before "Elmo's World" came to be, please let me know, (especially if you have episodes recorded that you would be willing to trade!). My list of available episodes, as well as individual sketches, songs, and skits will be posted following this opening statement.
That being said, this subject is now open for discussion.

I went over all my episodes, and the following list will state what, if anything, is missing and also any major discrepancies that happen to be on any of them:

#3191 - Wanda the fish goes to the playground ( complete - does have slight single ripple distortion going from bottom of screen and slowly ascending to top at very beginning, up to swing set scene, then again at very end as they are giving credits)
#3193 - Jack be Nimble (complete - 1 or 2 picture breaks while snuffy talks to squirrel at playground)
#3194 - Ruthie babysits (complete)
#3717 - Kingston wants to be different ( missing opening - starts where Kingston and friends introduce #8 - complete from there on)
#3718 - Telly’s "Everything Sandwich" - (complete)
#3719 - Oscar misses Slimey - (complete)
#3721 - Big Bird tries ballet - (complete)
#3722 - Snuffy tries tap dancing - (complete)
#3723 - Bob gets job offer - (complete - Has one major glitch in middle where channel accidentally got changed during recording. Is during cartoon where man and dog at beach scratch each others back.)
#3736 - Telly sets record for standing still - (complete - slight tracking ripple at beginning up to where Ruthie says "hello")
#3738 - "Flow White" - (complete)
#4036 - Gordon tries to practice chess while dealing with Elmo - (complete)
#4040 - Zoe gets Baby Bear and Telly to play tea party - (complete)

----------------extremely incomplete episodes------------------

#3726 - "Club 40" - (missing first half)
#4013 - snuffys grandma comes to visit - (missing last 20 minutes (possibly Elmo's World?))
#4077 - Grovers popcorn popper - (starts at song "Talk with your hands" and goes for about 30 minutes, ending early)
#4013 - Elmo and Zoe play aliens - (Missing approx. first 10 min)

The following episodes I have obtained through trade, so the majority of them have minor (if not major) resolution problems. Most, if not all, were taped from Noggin. If you wish to obtain these episodes, please be aware I cannot be held responsible for their quality, (or lack there of).

#1- pilot episode
#8 - letter B treasure hunt
#43 - Susan, Gordon, Bob, and Mr. Hooper have tea
#131 - Granny Grouch
#276 - New friends
#406 - Sam the Robot makes his first appearance

I was really pissed when they made the Cookie Monster more health by eating cookies only sometimes.

I really like sesame street prior to elmos world. Although a lot of kids like that part of the show today. I think it was after that Tickle Me Elmo toy rave that he got his own segment. I never thought I will see episodes like that again since it still gives it.

I believe Sesame street in Europe was different. There were just these short skits with the characters, and then either animated or live-action segments in-between. Ernie and Bert always made me laugh, and they still do, actually. Like when Ernie takes endless time to dress up before going to the newsagents (putting on earmuffs, an umbrella, sunglasses, sun lotion etc.). Count von Count I could also belly-laugh over.

There was also this short opera segment where counting up to five was the hidden theme. Now, Sesame street (or "Open, Sesame" as the Icelandic title would translate as) definitely counts as nostalgia for me.

I want to see this Seseme Street Fiddler on the Roof segment that you speak of Rosewood.

I miss the segment with the bellhop that would always forget what he had to do. And the animated 18 sandwhiches song....damn now I have that one in my head...

I would love to see the episode where they tell Big Bird that Mr. Hooper died again. It was sort of a benchmark in the 80's Sesame Street era.

I do like the fact that the animated segments in "Elmo's World" was done by Joey Ahlbum, The same guy who made those old Nickelodeon ID's. Plus, I find Heroguy cute.

I hate Elmo! I was always a Big Bird fan! I had a big talking one when I was 2 years old!

I can't even follow the show anymore. (But can you believe it's been on 37 years? Some of the original cast is still there!) And I really hate that it teaches kids bad English. "Elmo knows the answer!" That's great, but there's no need to speak in the third person!!

Hehe. The songs "Rubber Ducky" and "C is for Cookie" just popped into my head. I should go locate some old videos. Aside from taped stuff, I still have movies and videos of it including "Follow That Bird" and the original Christmas special!

                        Hey, I have a question.

As a kid, I watched SS. daily, so I'm wondering, was/is Sesame Street recorded daily or weekly??

I know that every day I watched, it was new for me (most episodes were older though *60s, 70s early 80's* when I was able to watch and remember them).

P.S. my favorites are: Telly, Kermit, Grover, Guy Smiley and Bert-Ernie.

I really like when Grover was playing that clumsy waiter. I was always glad when that came on. Super Grover was also good back in the day.

The two best characters were Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch. Ahh, they were both such lovable little creatures.

What ever happened to Grover? Is he even part of Sesame Street anymore? They never made a Tickle-me Grover either. They also needed to make a Tickle-Me Oscar doll, you'd squeeze him and instead of giggling he say, "HEY, YOU TOUCH ME AGAIN AND I'LL BITE YOUR FRIGGIN HEAD OFF!"
