I wonder if any fellow retrojunkers can help me with rediscovering a book series that I have since forgotten.

I don't recall any proper details that would help me track it down on my own but I do recall the important plot points and hopefully that'll be enough for someone to figure out what I'm talking about.

What I remember is that it was about a group a kids the leader of which was a boy who was trying to find this girl he liked who had vanished. Another thing I remember about this boy was that in the books it hints (Not too subtly) that he was molested while in a summer camp.

I'm not sure how it happens but they end up in a strange world when they fall asleep in the real world, and each time they fell asleep in the other world they woke up in the real world again. The last thing I remember about where they were was that they were dealing with Greek Gods and the prophet Cassandra warned them something bad was going to happen but no one believed her (No surprise there)

One of the other characters I remember was another boy who got involved in a group of people who were racists and when he tried to distance himself from them they began threatening him (Like slashing his bike seat for example)

The covers were really creative and it was a series written for young adults, I lost touch with the series I believe after the sixth book and I really wish I could recall more.

Can anyone help out? I'd love to do an article about this series and Google has failed me.
Twelve milkmen IS theoretically possible. Thirteen is silly. Looks like there's one milkman too many.

That sounds really familiar. I know that there have been several tv shows with that same kind of story to them.
Don't pay any attention to the evil spirited and dead of heart. They're not worth your time.

I want to say early 2000's maybe the late 90's I remember it was around the time the Animorph book series was popular.
