When you think of PBS kids shows from back in the day, you usually think of "Sesame Street", "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood", "Electric Company", "Zoom", "3-2-1 Contact", "Square One TV", and "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?", right?

Well, HOLD ON!!! I want to start of this thread by talking about the unsung heroes of PBS. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to be the first to welcome you to the wonderful world of...(drum roll, cymbal crash)...INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMMING!!! That's right, and no one does this genre better nor make it cooler than the people from AIT (Agency for Instruction Television [or Technology, for you 80s babies]).

This makes me wonder. Which is the greatest AIT program ever?

To give you something to chew on, let me give you a top ten list of my favorites in no particular order...

10. Readit (1982)
9. The Write Channel (1978)
8. The Writer's Realm (1986)
7. It Figures (1982)
6. Math Works (1984)
5. All About You (1974)
4. Inside/Out (1973)
3. Econ And Me (1989)
2. Well, Well, Well (Who doesn't remember Slim Goodbody?) (1985)

(drum roll) And now...my all-time favorite AIT progam is...(cymbal crash)

THINKABOUT (1979)

That's all for now.

      I do I remember this

"This program was brought to you by the Agency for Instruction Technology, AIT...Together serving edcuation " and "Programming for today's learner"

I liked Econ I mean AIT made some pretty good shows.

I remember the days when all PBS stations had "Instructional Programming" blocks, usually lasting between the hours of 9AM to 3PM during the school year (they usually were off the air in the summer months). Used to be fun whenever the TV set got turned on at school to watch these.

It Figures was an alright show. I think AIT programs started to suck when they changed their name and quit producing anything worth while. The classic shows had interesting themes, characters and lessons. I remember Slim Goodbody's kooky house from Well, Well, Well. Everything in the place could talk. I wish some of these shows were still on. Not an AIT show but still an unsung hero of the 80's is The Magic Place from Mississippi Public Television. Miss Mystery was such a babe.

Wasn't there an AIT show called "Measure Up"?

I remember when instructional TV shows used to air on my local PBS station around noon till 1 or 2. Sadly, they don't do it anymore. They even aired a few programs in the morning! The ones I remember the most are "Amigos", "Write Right", and "Adult Math". They were a little boring, But I liked 'em.

Worst I ever see is for a station to show it during the late-night hours or on some cable channel so that the school'll have to have their VCR's set up to record at those times. Used to be so different 20-30 years ago when this stuff was shown during the normal hours and schools didn't have to play it off a tape or such. Used to watch "The Electric Company" this way.

They use to do that up to a few years ago on my local PBS broadcast station.

I remember some of them, too. my personal favorites were All About You, The Write Channel (I adore R.B. Bug and The Club), and The Letter People (anyone remember the words to the theme song?).

                      That one was too simple.

                      "Come and meet
                      The Letter People
                      Come and see
                      The family
                      Words are made
                      Of Letter People
                      A-B-C-D
                      Follow me!"

                      I assume that's all.

^^naturally I knew that song, I was just wondering if anyone else did. I always loved the voice saying "The Letter People. Today meet (fill in a character)." mine was "Meet Mr N."

I remember Write Right. That was the one with the guy who looked like Judd Hirsch. Does anyone have an idea where I could get the theme songs to either Write Right or The Magic Place??
