the push-down vcr? you loaded the tape from the top and pushed it down to play the movie.

select-a-vision? equivalent of pay per view at the time, being the early 80s, i believe. they would have a few movies to choose from for a month or so.

early 80s printers? these things sucked. they wouldnt break the page as it appeared on screen. so you would get a page printed over the page break. and there were several other problems, as well.

the pull-knob t.v.? this is a personal slang term i use for having to pull the power knob out to turn the t.v. on. then it would take a minute or two to final show a picture.

the 45 record? this isnt really that old but you dont seem them anymore and havent seen them for about 15 years or so, if not more. we still have "we are the worl, and "too late for goodbye," and a few others.

-new additions-2

i am not sure if Nerf still makes these, but it was a three pronged boomerrang made of foam. it worked well from what i remember. my brother lost a few of these from landing them on the roof of the house.

microwaves with a hinged door that opened up like a garage door. my mom and dad never had one but i do remember seeing them. anyone else?

box of cookies at McDonalds? these were boxes about the size of the animal cracker box of chocolate chip cookies. they may have had other flavors but this is the one i remember.

-new additions-3

the short lived t.v. series "amazing stories" on its original day and time? i still see it on sci-fi time to time.

the Commodore Vic 20 computer. my brother and i had our time with this and a few games. i remember it hooking up to the t.v. and not remembering a separate monitor for it.

God, I hated old printers. Thankfully they improved on that technology.

I remember the old TVs. My grandpa and grandmama had the TVs with dials for years.

I don't remember the Select-a-vision you're talking about...the SelectaVision I remember was a format by RCA. You know, not Laserdisc, but the other videodisc, the one that worked like a record.

Only if you didn't have the printer adjusted properly. You just had to turn the little nob on the side a click or two to move the paper up or down a hair, and it wouldn't print on the page break anymore.

Turntables and vynals are still being made today, primarily because of the demand by audiophiles who claim that they have superior sound.

The reason I hate old printers is that they are very very loud while printing. Ugh!

I still have a pull-knob TV. It's in the corner of my bedroom, gathering dust. Still works, which it why I've never thrown it out.

And, I remember 45s very well. My brother had boxes and boxes of them, mostly stuff he found at thrift stores and garage sales along with a few things that were popular at the time. Titles I remember:

Paper Lace, "The Night Chicago Died"
                    Ric Ocasek, "Emotions In Motion"
The Swimming Pool Qs, "The A-Bomb Woke Me Up"
Tony Carey, "It's a Fine Fine Day"
The Pretenders, "Back On The Chain Gang" (it was his second copy, purchased after my sister threw his first into a lake because she hated the song so much)
                    Kim Carnes, "Bette Davis Eyes"
Juice Newton, "Angel of The Morning"
                    Berlin, "No More Words"
                    Tommy Roe, "Dizzy"
The Bay City Rollers, "Saturday Night"
Kid Creole and the Coconuts, "Annie (I'm Not Your Daddy)"
The Tom Tom Club, "Genius of Love"
Pete Townshend, "Face Dances Part Two" (unfortunately, this one got stolen after he took it to school one day, along with his copy of the soundtrack to The Kids Are Alright)
"Preserving the old ways from being abused,
Protecting the new ways for me and for you.
                    What more can we do?"

we had a push knob tv until the mid 90s. i loved that tv. i wish we still had it.

i also remember the push top vcr. i also remember us having a remote for it that had to be connected with a cord. apparently i broke the cord when i was little. i don't remember that part though.

I remember the push down VCR-s where the deck was on the top of the machine. My family never had one but some of my releatives and people my dad knew from work had them. We got our first VCR around 1984 and it was a Betamax. My dad stayed with that technology for a while after VHS took over because he prefered Beta. I remember having to go to specialty places to rent Beta movies during the last days we had it.

My sister and I bought a bunch of 45's when they were being phased out. They were really cheap. We put our 45's on tape and never played the 45's anymore. It was all pop stuff of the day (late 80's), I got rid of mine after a while. My sister did too, she let me pick through them first. I only saved one, Circle in the Sand by Belinda Carsile. She was a hottie back in the day and the song was pretty decent for 80's pop. Just a while ago at Salvation Army I picked through a box of 45s. Most of it was horrible 80's stuff like Debbie Gibson but there was some incredible vintage stuff in there. For 69 cents a piece I borught home a Sam and Dave 45 on Stax Records "Hold On I'm Coming", The Human Beingz "No no no" which is an old 60's garage type record. These days Paul Schaffer uses it on Letterman as the theme song to "Know Your Current Events/ Cuts of Meat" and a mono Jimi Hendrix double a-side single "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" b/w "All Along the Watchtower." All of them were originals in decent condition.

One bit of 80's technolgy I never knew anyone who had but I think is great is the RCA CED Videodisc. Essentially this was the first version of the laserdisc and DVD. It was developed in the 60's and became avaliable to the public in the 70's. Videodiscs were video printed onto vinyl. The great thing about how they worked and I think this should come back cause you wouldn't get so many scratched DVDs is that you never acually touched the disc. The disc was inside a sleeve. You fed the sleeve with the record inside into the player. The player removes the disc from the sleeve to play it. One of the main reasons it didn't winout over VHS and Beta was you couldn't record with it.

Yes! I remember those TV's. I believe they were console TV's. We used to have one until 1994. My grandmother still has one, but it's broken. :(

We had one, lasted us a good 12 years.

Today I saw another one outside while I was walking.
