Have you ever feel embarrassed in participating in old fads that
were popular in your childhood.I am talking things like Pogs,Pokemon Cards,
Parachute Pants,Boy Bands,Bellbottom Jeans,The Macarena.. Fads Like those.
I'll Start Off.

''The Pokemon Craze''(1998-1999)
When I was in kindergarten class back in the late 90s Pokemon
stuff were huge and the kids in the class always reenact the battles
from the anime that aired on Kids WB. I never collected the cards but,
I always watch the show every Saturday morning and bought Pokemon
crap like a talking Meowth toy. Looking back, the anime was just a lame
show where the same thing happens every damn episode. Ash looks for a
Pokemon/competes for a battle,he and his friends train,Team Rocket attempts
to catch Pekachu, they fail,''Team Rockets Blasts Off Again!'' UGH!,and Ash catches
the Pokemon/wins the Tournament. It was the same repetitive plot. Also, how many
damn tournaments are there in Japan? Its been fourteen years since hes started his quest to be Pokemon Master and hes still on his journey for Pokemon Master!!!

But only with the young adult crowd. I don't see the new
generation of children obsessed with Pokemon.

If you think that's bizarre you should've seen the vests that came equipped with speakers that allowed you to plug in your Walkman and turned you into a walking boombox (and a douche).

That seems more like an activity at camp then a national craze. What year when was that popular?

Beanie Babies. Not the Beanies themselves though, it was the obsessive collecters who bought a five cent Beanie and put in in a glass display case on a high shelf, thinking it'll be worth thousands of dollars one day, and all hell broke loose if you so much as looked at it.

Tamagotchis. Whlle they are fun, the people who CONSTANTLY played with them (the BEEPING! Dear GOD, the beeping!) and bragged about how they got the NEWEST one and YOU don't and that they have TEN and you only have TWO. It all seems rather stupid now a days. People who were like that will deny ever being like that, but I was there, I saw it.

I guess for me, it's not the fad itself that was lame, but the amount of obsessing that happened over it. Come on, it's a toy that costs ten cents to make, not a future investment or a real animal.

I wasn't like that at all. I collected a few as a kid but, I knew they were just stuffed animals.

I am surprised no one mentioned the biggie, and that would be: break dancing.

At least when I was a kid in the '80s, it actually meant something, not like it does today.

And, I was also into temporary tattoos, those styrofoam airplanes that cost approx $0.25, Garbage Pail Kids cards, Wacky Packages.

Would you believe, marbles got really big at my elementary school, I remember only two people had them one day, and then the next day everyone had them.

There are a lot of other things as well that I was into that were popular in the '80s, like: fluorescent shoe laces.

In Canada, I know they used to call them "stone washed" jeans. And, yes, even if the jeans weren't stone washed, we still ripped the knees.
