I think they're pretty good. My dad used to listen to them all the time

"This is the story of Judge Dredd"
"Settle Down, my boy, settle down"

    and more...

I have either MAW or someone who sounds similar doing an acoustic version of Land Down Under and it's one of the most awesome songs I have ever heard.
      "Now it makes me sad
It makes me mad at truth
      For loving what was you"

Can you name a well-known song by them? My problem with groups that performed in the 80s, due to my age at the time, is that I have a tough time remembering which group or artist did what song. I know of Men at Work, but can't recall a song right off by 'em.

I have Business As Usual on disc. Still sounds pretty good, after all these years. One of these days, I'll grab Cargo, too.

My very first karaoke experience was singing "Down Under" in Toronto when I was thirteen. Also, they used to show their videos on HBO's Video Jukebox when I was little. I thought-- and still think-- they were funny.

I have the two MAW albums that they released:

                      Buisness As Usual
                      &
                      Cargo

both on vinyl. They kick arse!!! :)

Apart from their biggest hit, "Land Down Under," and the already mentioned "It's a Mistake" Men at Work's other biggest hits were "Who Can it be Now?", "Be Good Johnny" and "Overkill."

Great to see a thread about these guys, I loved the Business as Usual album when I was a kid and I think it still holds up pretty well. They had a third and final studio album in 1985 which was not nearly as good as the first two but still had two decent songs, "Maria" and "Everything I Need."

My favorite song by them is the 6 minute mini-epic "Down by the Sea." Men at Work wound up prepping for liking the band Television later in life. To me Television sounds like the best Men at Work stuff without the Australian accents. They share the same tight, catchy and quirky pop sound, unique vocal styles and super clean guitar tones.

i'm about to get the MAW greatest hits cd.

hah... i was watching the music video "Land Down Under" from Pop Up Video and the lyric that said the van was full of zombie (i know that's not the right lyric, but it was talking about it) , and it said that zombie meant marijuana in austrailia.

                          lol.

They were a awesome band back in the eighties, I still listen to their music these days as well as Mental As Anything. Both were my favorite bands back in the day :D

There's a couple of Men at Work best ofs. There's a few budget priced ones, Super Hits is the best one you can get for those. There's also for about 15 dollars a more fan oriented best of called Contraband - The Best of Men at Work.

As I said my all time favorite Men at Work song is Down by the Sea, they get into a beautiful groove on that one and I like the seaside imagery. I also really like Who Can it be Now?, Be Good Johnny (could always relate to that one cause I had ADD and daydreamed constantly as a kid), It's a Mistake, Overkill, Upstairs in my Room and No Restricitions.

For Television I recommend the first two albums, Marquee Moon and Adventure. Marquee Moon is critically recognized as a classic album and is a fan favorite but I prefer Adventure cause the songwriting is a bit more structured and the playing is a bit tighter. "Days" and "Careful" are my favorite Television songs.

The last little while I've been watching Colin Hay (lead vocals and guitar for Men at Work) stuff on Youtube and was very impressed on his acoustic stripped down solo material and Men at Work covers. I just made a cd-r of his music through my emusic pay download subsciption, I recommend it to Men at Work fans. His songwriting is still strong and most of the arrangments are quite good. The acoustic Men at Work interpretations of stuff like Who Can it Be Now and Overkill are especially good.
