It's been bothering me for some time and I hope someone can help!
Here's what I remember:

It was animated somewhat like the japanese animation from the 80's.
It was about a boy and these two horses BUT the horses were magical.
The horses were black with loooong red or golden mane.
Based on russian tale? (Could be completely wrong)
The boy is in a field on a starry night when a comet/star comes down.
Some mean men steal the horses and try to sell them.
At one point the boy or a man have to dip in a vat of ice water, boiling water and another vat I can't remember.

Please please please help, I would appreciate it so much
